    Great new military romance series

You really have to like Alphas to get into David. He’s sexy in an in-charge kind of way. He’s military through and through, willing to take on the bad guys and kick some butt. It also tends to make him think he always knows best and to be the strong-silent-type. Lyn grew up with a career military man for a stepfather and it’s left her with some issues. He’s not a caring man, hard and tough – his way or the highway kind of thing. She’s spent her whole life trying to prove something to him. Unfortunately that bleeds over into her first interactions with David. Luckily they quickly find a middle ground that works for them … and that over time develops into something more. This one reminded me a lot of Lynn Rae Harris’s HOT series, where you get romance mixed with suspense but not a lot of lightheartedness. Which is fine – there are those kinds of books and then these kinds of books (and other kinds of books :)) but if you were expecting something with cutesy interactions you aren’t going to get it. Instead you get a strong hero, a heroine that can keep up with him, and a bit of intrigue to keep them guessing. I will warn you now that while we get some answers, we don’t get them all so there is sure to be a continuation of the mystery in future stories. And I have to say that I’m glad this is the start of a series because I didn’t get all of the answers I needed about the guys running the Hope’s Crossing kennel. I can’t wait to get to know David’s friends better :) And to find out more about the group who caused them a bunch of trouble here. (Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review)

A Fantastic Action Suspense with Romantic Elements

⚠ MY THOUGHTS ⚠ ⭐ ⭐ Provided by Netgalley in Exchange for an Honest Review ⭐ ⭐ Judging a Book by it's Cover: Man of action with trusty K9 companion, projects a rugged Alpha vibe. Synopsis seems slightly similar to a recent movie released, but still leaves plenty room to intrigue. Looking Deeper: Third-person POV. David is a former active-duty soldier, now working to train military canines. Lyn has a way with dogs that not many share. Together, they must work to help a K9 overcome PTSD while serving overseas and losing his handler / partner. There's mystery surrounding the handler's death and someone does not want the answers to be found and will go to deadly lengths to make sure the truth is never uncovered. The lead characters are strong and mature. Their relationship progresses slowly and naturally. There's a solid secondary cast of characters that we are made to love or hate. Interaction and dialogue are believable. The plot is dynamic and multidimensional. You might think you have pegged the "big bad", but a plot twist throws you for a total loop. The writing style is incredibly smooth and the plot flows quite nicely. There are layers of conflict that are peeled away one by one, resolved in ways suitable for their situations. The conclusion is solid in that the lead characters receive their HEA, but it seems there may be a few strings untied in the background that may stray into future books of the series. Overall, a fantastic read. Thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining and exciting. This is the first book I've read by Piper J Drake and it most certainly will NOT be the last! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rating: 4 [R] ~ Score: 4.4 ~ Stars: 4 (4.5, if I could) -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Attractive military men & dogs? Yes, please!

3.5 Stars Attractive military men who love and train dogs have got to be a big draw and EXTREME HONOR is lighthearted romantic suspense which combines those two things in a way that is interesting even for people who are not animal lovers. David Cruz is facing his biggest challenge yet: the heartbroken canine partner of his deceased friend, Atlas and he can't seem to make any headway with him. Until famed dog whisperer Evelyn Jones comes to his aid. Lyn's charm is not limited to the dog and soon David finds himself drawn in by her. But there is a lot of interest in Atlas from many quarters, because of information he may be in possession of that could reveal a conspiracy, corruption and murders, and destroy many military careers. Both Lyn and David are determined to solve the mystery of what happened to Atlas and his partner and David is also determined to keep Lyn safe from danger. I expected a lot more war front action from this book but I wasn't disappointed by the lack of it. Lyn and David are good for each other, in spite of their initial reservations. And Atlas is a heart-breaker. The story is well-written and unexpectedly sweet and I enjoyed the mystery. I think Ms. Drake did a great job with Lyn's character, especially her relationship with her stepfather and its parallels with and impact on her relationship with David. David was a protector to the core, in the way he looked out for Lyn and Atlas and his unrelenting quest to find out what happened to his friend. This is my first read by Ms. Drake and I'm interested in the rest of the books in the series. Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. Malinois Madness

I really enjoyed this romance/thriller with a handsome ex-military man, Malinois dog and dog-whisperer stepdaughter of a general. Together, they solve a mystery of a fallen comrade and retrain his dog to trust again. Loved reading about the commands used to manage a Malinois in combat!
