  • Must Read for 2021

I wasn't sure how this was going to play out for me- I'm not much of a derby fan was worried I would feel disconnected But for this journey? It was the perfect sport Emotional Real Raw The slow build between Mayhem and Priest? It was paced perfectly The tension between Tilly and Maisey? It brought an important element to the overall story Lana and the truth of her past? It just endeared certain characters to me that much more Eve and her jealousy? I look forward to her story Micha... that's a little secret you will have to find out on your own. Not only will the main characters attach themselves to you but I believe you will be just as enamored with the supporting cast I laughed - I wiped away a couple of tears - and I fell in love Maisey had a rough start - a sort of reoccurring transplant history when it came to her childhood. Nothing was ever permanent in her life. She learned that the hard way and at a very young age. Only two things take up residence in her world now Derby and the children she volunteers with There is no room for anything else in her life Cain is bathing in a vat of self-loathing - One of his own making and an intricate part of the story He has been for years. He was only back in town to help his sister - Quick stop - In and out - No connections - No... Ahhh hades! The best-laid plans just got knocked away Looks like life found a way to give them both what they needed even if they didn't know they wanted it

  • Rollin' in with a new series like a boss!

False Start makes my roller derby loving heart SO happy. It has the perfect mix of derby action, romance, humor, and drama. Cain "Priest" Bishop is only back in town to help his pregnant sister out until her husband can come home. With spiteful gossip and having to face past mistakes, Cain can't leave town soon enough - until he meets Maisy. Maisy "Mayhem" Flynn is tough as nails, but when it comes to her roller derby team, she'll do anything to help them succeed, even if it means recruiting help from someone with a sketchy past. This sports romance was everything I was hoping it'd be and more. I loved the unending witty banter between Cain and Maisy, the family dynamic with his sister will win you over immediately, and the derby action made me feel like I was at a live bout. A slow burn that will have you cheering, counting down until Hip Whip releases!

  • Super small town read

Maisy “Mayhem” Flynn and Cain “Priest” Bishop are the stars of False Start, and Maisy’s teammates are definitely an added bonus to the story which is so much more than a Roller Derby Romance. Although a long time resident, Maisy who is fierce in her convictions, is still considered somewhat of an outsider, and she has never felt that she belonged, until the town begins to embrace her. Cain, dark and brooding, keeps his own secrets, as he comes home to take care of family after a long absence, and one single mistake that changed everything. These two are drawn to each other, driving each other crazy, and insanely wild as their attraction and heat is next level. As this well written story unfolds the romance which is a slow burn, is well worth the wait.

  • Easy read, full of romance and roller derby

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. This was an easy read with well developed characters. I loved Maisy and Cain's dynamic and the inexplicable pull between them. I read the novella regarding Jackson [penalty box] and was glad to see it pop back up at times. Really enjoying the world of Galloway Bay. I am really enjoying Echo Grayce's writing style, only recently having found out about her. I dont normally like sports romances, but this one was a page turner and I found myself really immersed in the roller derby world.

  • This story had something in it that was new to me.

This story had something in it that was new to me. Roller derby. But to get into this world and the dynamic between the teammates was fantastic. This book is about Maisy and Cain. A slow burn love story about two very people. Mysterious Cain with his tragic past and secrets, and Maisy who wants to stabilize her life, settle down make roots. Whenever these two were together there was chemistry that set the pages on fire. They are drawn to each other, in many ways. A book with themes like sport, fun, comraderie and love. A happy end and so much more options for more books in this world. A perfect story for everyone who loves to read about characters that aren't perfect, have flaws and still get their happy end.
