    Excellent Writing Advice

This short book provides one of the clearest depictions I've ever encountered regarding the use of detail to enhance the emotional tone of a story. Far too often beginning writers are told they must "show, not tell," but given very little guidance about when or how to do so. Here, Simner avoids repeating that cliched advice and, instead, provides multiple detailed examples of how authors use details to craft emotional resonance into the setting, so that it does double duty, showing both the world in which characters live and the ways in which who a character is and what they feel shapes their understanding of the world around them.
