  • A totally unexpected pleasure

When nothing is going right, yet everything is going write you have this book. It was not what I was expecting and a very pleasant surprise as I was reading. Nothing gets to you like a single Mother who is struggling to make ends meet, and you root for her to succeed, even if it’s purely luck by the seat of her pants. A fun, fast paced read that will have you chuckling at times and grimacing at others. Either way, it’s an enjoyable read and you will be #TeamFinlay.

  • Too much fun!

family-dynamics, friendship, suspense, situational-humor, verbal-humor, mystery, mystery-writer I was thinking about The Housewife Assassin when I saw this one, but this is even funnier because the assassination was so weird. The whole tale is so convoluted and funny that I can't recap it without being afraid of doing a spoiler. Come for the suspense and you'll definitely stay for all the situational humor. I sure did! I requested and received a free ebook copy from St. Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

  • A twisted tale guaranteed to make you laugh

Pandemic life getting you down? Want to escape into a twisted tale that is guaranteed to make you laugh and leave you with a smile? Finlay Donovan is a terrible partner in crime but the perfect choice for an immersive and super fun distraction. I was completely sucked in and could not stop reading to see what hilarious and outrageous activities Finlay would get up to next. The story is a little bit of mystery, a smidge of romance, a larger portion of crime, and a big dollop of comedy and laugh out loud humour. Finlay is a sometimes infuriating but often delightful character; a single mother attempting to co-parent with her odious cheating ex, a not so successful suspense writer, driver of mini vans and wrangler of toddlers. Desperate for money to keep her lights on and her ex from taking the kids she frantically tries to complete her next novel but just can’t seem to get her hot mess of a life together enough to succeed. When she is mistaken for a contract killer and offered a large amount of money to carry out the murder, she can’t help but consider it, at least theoretically. Through a series of bad decisions and comical mishaps Finlay inadvertently finds herself with a body to bury and a crime to cover up. There are shootings, kidnappings, unexplained disappearances, in addition to the murders and it’s all a lot for Finlay to manage, especially with a looming book deadline and her baby on her hip! The intense non-stop action and the cracking dark humour made for a quick and delicious read. It was just what I needed to brighten up my week. I cackled out loud like a wicked but entirely pleased witch at the ending which knocked my sock off. It makes me think we may hear more from Finlay Donovan in future and I am 100% here for it! I’ll ride shotgun in her Dodge minivan any day. Let’s try really hard not to kill anyone though, okay? Thank you St. Martin's Press and Minotaur Books for providing an Electronic Advance Reader Copy via NetGalley for review.

  • Fun Mystery

During the craziness of 2020, I have been struggling to find books that hold my attention. Finlay Donavon Is Killing It not only kept my attention but it kept me wanting more. I loved this fun mystery. Imagine an author who is struggling to make ends meet while her ex-husband is asking for custody of the kids. Finlay cannot even keep her household together and then gets pulled into a tangled, twisted, and fun web of lies, secrets, and murder. I laughed, I cringed, and I kept turning page after page of this wonderful book. I did not know how it would turn out, I could not even guess what would happen, I had no clue how it would end but I knew that I had to get to the end to find out. As I got closer to the end I slowed my reading down. I devoured each word just to make the book last longer. I was not ready to walk away from Finlay her crazy life. There were so many things that as a mom I could relate to. The everyday mom life is not easy and Finlay is not quite slaying it. Her fails as a mom made her realistic while the drama if her life made me laugh.

  • Laugh out loud

Finlay Donovan is Killing It is a refreshing, laugh out loud read that deserves 5 stars. The author had me at the dedication to her friends "....because I would bury a body with either of you" Finn I would also bury a body with you and have a pint with you as well. The pages flew by as you watched and waited for Finn and Vero to get themselves out this huge mess of supposedly being hired killers. This is a must read and you will be smiling and laughing out loud The ending was perfect, hoping Finn will return and entertain us one more time. FInlay Donovan is Killing It will be a big hit. Mark your calendars. Can't wait to buy it for my daughter.
