    Loved it

Another heartwarming story set at the amazing Hathaway House , Dale Mayer manages to give heart and soul to all the lovely characters who work there. Finn MacGregor, a navy SEAL sustained life changing injuries after an encounter with an IED. He was admitted to Hathaway House rehabilitation centre which was run by his old friend Dani Hathaway and her father. Finn had lost half of one leg and had a stoma resulting in him having to wear a colostomy bag. Finn found the stoma very difficult to come to terms with and an embarrassment. With the help and support of Fiona Smithers, his nurse Finn begins to rebuild his life and look forward to the future. I love this series of books, I love the blossoming romance between Finn and Fiona, I love the way that the animals kept at the sanctuary are incorporated into the healing process of the residents. Well done Dale Mayer on another lovely story, no nail biting suspense just gentle romance and lovely characters. I can highly recommend this book I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

    Accepting a New Normal

Finn has waited a long time to be ready for transfer to Hathaway House. He is almost ready to try again for a prosthesis on his missing lower leg, and his ability to sit or stand up straight is compromised by the loss of a significant amount of back muscle. Yet, his biggest worry is how people, especially women, will react to the colostomy bag that may well be a permanent part of his future. He and Dani were friends years ago, so her acceptance of who he is now doesn’t really give him any assurance. His nurse, Fiona, no stranger to patients using a variety of devices, is very open with him, even teasing him about getting a bag with pretty designs as a way to normalize his need for it. As is usually the case in a book of this type, both Fiona and Finn feel a special caring that they are wary of disclosing to each other. Wanting to help him find a healthy outlet for his closely-guarded emotions, Fiona learns of Finn’s artistic talent and gets him a sketchbook and his favorite pencils and looks forward to seeing what he does with them. He declines to show her the sketch he’s been working on, but she inadvertently gets a brief glimpse of it -- a woman’s face – and she is devastated to think he already has a special woman in his life. As she endeavors to step back to a strictly professional role, Finn’s recovery seems to slow. OK, now it’s your job to read the book and find out what happens. I absolutely love these books and the characters in them. I received a free copy of this book from Booksprout and am providing a voluntary and honest review.

Will Finn and Fiona have a future???

Yet another great read in this series. This time we have Finn, who is friends with Elliot and Dani. Having been injured with little muscle in his back and other problems, Finn is just trying to get some sort of life going where he can be Mobile and do some things for himself. Fiona Smithers is a nurse and is still trying to get over a patient who tried to make out he was with her in a relationship. The patient was ousted from Hathaway house but Fiona still feels a little guilt over it although it was not her fault. As she and Finn start to has a bit of a relationship, her asking about his drawings of her start warning alerts that he may be like the other patient and she starts to distance herself. A bit of an emotional in parts and you could feel the pain from both of them. Can Finn get back to his sketching and can Fiona realise that Finn isn’t like the other patient. An all round good read from start to finish. I can’t wait to read Gregory’s book. Although all stand alone it’s nice to read them in order so you know who the characters are.

    Yay Finn!

Another sweet love story with Dani’s amazing rehabilitation center! This heartwarming story focuses on the various medical needs of Finn, a war veteran who suffered massive injuries while serving his country. There is also focus on the real-life adjustments to the new reality of what Finn’s body has survived and is needing to adapt to and those excruciating limitations. I love the staff at Hathaway House, including Stan, the onsite Veterinarian who helps rehabilitate the many animals, large and small, that come into the center for help and foster care. Dennis, one of the chefs, is an amazing man that has such a great personality, I hop he gets his story someday. A beautiful story full of love, compassion, realism and hope. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the animals and their interaction with the residents and staff. I can truly believe that animals are a great source of comfort and help humans adapt to stressful situations. I love Fiona and her dedication to her patients and the center. She has a special kind of compassion for Finn and his perceived limitations. Their connection is sweet and empowering. A great read and one that is enthusiastically recommended!

What a heartwarming true to life book!

I look forward to these books by Dale Mayer as they are the kind of books that help get me out of a funk when I need it. This book was so heartwarming and made my day when I read it. I started reading the book and couldn't put it down. The interaction between the main characters is so real and makes you wonder if there is really a Hathaway House for our vets. If not, why? I know it takes funding but the good it would do our vets has got to be well worth the cost. This type of book is the best to read if you love romance, true to life stories. I loved every minute of this book and look forward to the next book in the series. Thanks Dale for making my day!
