    page turner

First Instinct is book one in the Northstar Book series by Suzie O’Connell. I thought it was very well written. Beth Carlyle is a dedicated college student. When her boyfriend grows violent and rapes her, her world is shattered. Nick Hammond has been Beth’s best friend ever since childhood. When he tries to defend Beth, his world is also shaken. What will happen to the two friends and can there ever be more between them after such violence? This book is definitely a page turner. For any reader who may have lived through sexual assault, this book might be too difficult. The scene described is explicit and hard to read through. But Beth discovers that she is stronger than she realized. A very powerful story...

    All Suzie Oconnells novels

I think I have read about 9 or 10 of her books up til now and loved everyone of them. The mountains of Montana must be beautiful to keep all these families returning to live there.I enjoyed the way the families have all melded together the close knit neighborhood makes you wish you were one of them. Anyone who enjoys a good loving family novels will love these. Highly recommended.

Painful subject handled with great insight and com

Even though date rape and it’s aftermath is a part of this story, it is not the main feature of this story. This story is, at it’s core, a love story. As this story unfolds, many emotions come into to play. Emotions that may leave you gasping in horror, crying for the heroine, Beth, and seething in anger for what she endured and her treatment afterwards. Yet, the most lasting impressions left by reading this book are the healing powers of love, (especially true love), hope and faith. Nick’s care of Beth and his steadfast support allow her to heal, to regain her confidence and to face her attacker and his supporters. Suzie handled a very painful subject with great insight, care and compassion. Well done, Suzie!
