  • Officially one of my favourites.

"Fishbowl" has placed in my top 10 favourite novels, for sure. I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I picked it up at Chapters that first time, so I put it back down and didn't look at it again until this Christmas, when I got my Kobo. The synopsis stuck with me so I grabbed the book as one of the first on my new device, and when I got around to reading it I was sorry I hadn't read it sooner. Everything about this book is amazing. When a book has many characters, I often grow concerned that they will not be human enough - each will be just a cutout, lifeless and flat and stereotypical. But this book proved me wrong. Each character was fully human, round and robust and exploding with life in a way I never thought possible. Yet at the same time, the author left room for you to build your own little world here - much was left unsaid, but it didn't need saying. The way all of the characters connected was precise and beautiful, a real reflection of life in the city where connections are hidden and ready to be uncovered. I am very impressed by this work. Very impressed. Definitely a book I will give a second read-through and recommend to many!

  • Charmingly Edgy

I fell in love with the characters in this book, each making a surprising connection, some shocking even themselves (in one case, literally). Somers has a delightful writing style. The chapter titles seemed like spoilers, but each had a twist. The language gets salty and some of the situations are gritty. I felt like I'd had a philosophy lesson by the end.

  • Fishbowl

30 minutes of the lives of some tenants inside one apartment/condo building, while Ian the goldfish ponders his surroundings as he leaps from the 25th floor.

  • Fabulous flying fish

Such a wonderful story about what can happen to unrelated people in a few seconds of free fall. Charming characters with all their flaws and how some of them come together in the most pleasing ways. A little gem of a book.
