  • Understanding BLM on another planet

The work of a grandmaster at the height of her power. Five ways to forgiveness is a series of five connected long stories on the edge of Le Guin's "Hainish" story cycle. The planet at the center of the stories portrays a human sub-species where darker-skin is emblematic of the "master race" of the planet and the lighter-skinned people are held as slaves. As they join intergalactic society, their mores and customs come under stress and begin to change. Imagine a world where the Antebellum South was the planet's dominant culture, but the skin-colors were reversed! It's a wonderful meditation on stagnation, servitude, honor, freedom, faith, growth, and just getting by. Full of the kind of cultural, political, and human reflections that always marked out the best of Le Guin.

    Thanks for your feedback!
