  • Brave heroine

Overall, I gave this book four stars because of the way the author, who is new to me, portrayed both Colleen herself and the abuse she suffered. Otherwise, it’s closer to a three, which is still good, but was missing some key elements for me. While I liked Finn, I wasn’t in love with him. I knew he loved Colleen but I didn’t feel this great passion between them. I would have liked to have seen a bit more fleshing out of the Murphy brothers, which I’m sure will be coming in their own books, but the secondary characters could have brought more to the story than they did. Also, not a big fan of Colleen’s mom. As a mother of daughters myself, I think their relationship would have been more open if the mom shared her struggles with her own issues earlier. I want to continue with the series, even after missing book one. I’m intrigued by Ryan, so I’m hoping we hear his story. The writing was good, I just needed a bit more characterization.

  • Love This Second Chance Love Story

I received an ARC of For Your Love by Kate McBrien, the second book in her Hidden Hearts series for an honest review. I can honestly say that For Your Love was one of the most enjoyable books that I have read recently. For Your Love is the first book that I have read by Kate McBrien, and I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading other books by Kate McBrien. For Your Love is a beautifully written love story about perseverance and dealing with all of life's shortcomings. I loved every page and could not put it down! For Your Love is the story of Colleen Murphy and Finn O’Connor. Colleen and Finn were family friends, but that all changed one day ten years prior to the events of the story. After sharing a kiss in the park, Finn leaves and heads home to New York and Colleen feels like Finn rejected her. Colleen and Finn see each other again when Finn attends the funeral of Colleen’s father, Jimmy, but Colleen wants no part of Finn. Colleen loses her teaching job and heads to New York to work in an art gallery and live with her brother, Sean who happens to live in the same building as Finn. Finn is now a lawyer for a non-profit, trying to right the wrongs that his father committed. Colleen and Finn begin to spend more time together. They share secrets and their unfulfilled dreams. Colleen tells him about how her life and therefore her dreams changed after her father suffered debilitating strokes. Colleen shares her deepest darkest secret with Finn, one that she has never shared with anyone. Finn tells Colleen how her father, Jimmy was always his go to guy for advice and Collen finds a book that her father had given to Finn. They admit their true feeling for one another, but a surprise plot twist changes everything. I love the changes that took place in both Colleen and Finn in the story. I love how Colleen reinvents herself after losing the job at the gallery. For Your Love is filled with heartwarming and heart-breaking moments, and with so much emotion. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. One of my favorite parts of the story was the acknowledgements, where Kate McBrien discloses her own real-life experiences that lead to her writing such a personal story, and how Colleen’s victim impact statement was the one that she never got to deliver herself. I am truly in awe of Kate McBrien for writing such an amazing personal story and her ability as a wonderful storyteller. I love how Kate develops her characters in such a way that you fall in love with them and care about them much like a good friend. Kate McBrien describes in heart wrenching detail Colleen’s childhood sexual abuse at the hands of her childhood neighbor. I love Colleen’s transformation after she apprises her family about the sexual abuse she suffered. I love how everything gets resolved and in much better ways than I had expected. I love the cast of characters in For Your Love and the Los Angeles and New York setting. Who doesn’t love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I thoroughly enjoyed For Your Love, who doesn’t love a second chance at first love story?

  • Love Story Touched My Heart

This is the first book I have read by this author, but it won’t be my last. The story was so interesting and grabbed my attention from the beginning. I didn’t want to put the book down. There is a topic about child molestation that was handled well. Colleen and her family lived in California and were a close Irish family. I loved the interaction with the siblings and the love of their parents. Finn and his family came to visit for summers and he always felt part of the family. It is always nice to watch young people become adults and look at each other differently. I was sad when Finn and Colleen could have had a chance to be together when they were just starting out as adults, but didn’t work out. Ten years later they get their second chance because of something sad happening. In those ten years a lot of the dreams Colleen and Finn had changed. Finn’s father’s actions haunted Finn. Something from Colleen’s childhood haunted her. I was glad to see they were both smart enough on their own to get help from a professional. The love story between the two touched my heart. The writing was so good that I could feel the pain and the happiness through the book. This is such a good story, and I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

  • Beautiful

This is a story that I really enjoyed. I loved the Irish Catholic family and everything that goes into a big fun family. This is a friends to enemies to lovers story and it’s a great story too just spend an afternoon reading. I loved Colleen and Finn’s romance. I loved the dual point of view and the time it took for them to get together. This is my first book by this author and I plan on reading more of her work.
