    Great Shifter Romance!

This is the latest instalment in Nancy Corrigan's Royal Kagan shifter world series. Freeing His Mate is the first in the Shifter's Affairs series, but the underlying storyline is woven throughout, connecting all the series'. Rick meets Mya at the bar where she works and realizes she's his true mate, only to find out that she has been bonded to another shifter unwilingly. Rick will do anything to free Mya so they can be together. As he pursues his investigation, which involves her bonded breeding partner, he uncovers a secret about her and her unborn children that will change their lives. I love the common thread running through all of these shifter books and the recurring characters. I anxiously awayt the next in this series!

    I love this spin-off series.

This book was so good. I love visiting this world. Rick Lyall has been assigned to Shifter Affairs with a new partner. Uri is a Royal feline shifter and a stickler for the rules. These two are quite the partners, as they are so opposite they have just about everything covered. They're new case is to solve a murder that happened suspiciously. Mya sparks Rick's attention from the first time he saw her. She has a breeding partner and a set of twin girls. The Silverman men, Todd and his uncle Wyatt, have an archaic view of women and Mya is stuck with them. This case gets bigger and more complicated each day. I love Uri. He's all business and rules, but he finds ways to work the rules. I loved his reaction after he made the date with the waitress for information. This book has wonderful romance, action, a lunatic, and a happy ending. I am so excited for the next book for Ilan's story, as well.

Tough Choices in this Exciting Shifter Story!!

The Shifter Worlds created by Ms. Corrigan are ingenious and exhilarating. In her shifter world Shifter Affairs is to be avoided at all costs. This story focuses on Rick who is a member of Shifter Affairs working on solving a murder. Rick lost his breeding partner 40 years ago, and is only living half a life. When he meets his true mate he is appalled that she is mated and has children. Mya was tricked into becoming a breeding partner for Todd. Her daughters are considered a “waste”, and the current pregnancy may result in greater danger if they are males. Mya is only required to see Todd on the night of the full moon; when she meets Rick she knows that interest in him could lead to both their deaths – all permissible by law under their current situation. The “perfect” catch-twenty-two story, with brutal shifter laws, fated mates, and the willingness to die for your loved one. Another excellent shifter story, which I highly recommend!! *** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***

    A fight for forever

Ms. Corrigan is a new to me author, and I'm surprised and awed by the intensity with which she writes. This shifter world is very different from others I've read about. It's complex and complicated. Laws have been established and are abided by. To challenge a law could mean death. But to take that risk... It could mean all the happiness in the world if you remain the victor. Is it worth it? Challenging another male for the right to mate with his breeding partner if that breeding partner is your true mate? Is it worth risking the wrath of the male who claimed you against your will to let your heart lead and, for once, grab what Fate has placed in front of you? For Rick and Mya, yes and yes. Their story isn't the only one to unfold. The game's afoot as Rick and his new partner, Uri, work to solve a cold crime and find out who's behind the influx of drugs in town. The twist at the end, the reveal of the Whodunit, was well written. No matter how many times I read this story, connecting the dots to that final moment was impossible. Ms. Corrigan did, in my opinion, a terrific job of maintaining the suspense and mystery while letting Rick and Mya's romance grow. The ending will leave you happy and anxious. Happy for Rick and Mya and her children, even the unborn ones, and anxious to know what comes next. A word of warning: the archaic brutality of this world might not sit well with all readers. I get it. There's a level of civility I, myself, have come to expect in paranormal romances, and the fact this one is more supernatural and brutal took my breath away. But is this a book worth reading? Absolutely. Rick and Mya's story is a standalone in this series. Old characters make cameos and may leave you a little lost if you haven't read any other Royal-Kagan stories, but hang in there. I promise it's worth it. Will I read the next book? Absolutely. If Ms. Corrigan can make me sit up and take notice of this story with just the first page, I imagine the books to come will be just the same.
