  • A must read!

I loved this book! It is rare for books to take place in Newfoundland and the author was able to highlight the wonderful nuances of the province without overshadowing the characters. The characters were written so richly written that I felt an attachment to them and their stories. It is the first novel by the author and I look forward to reading more of her work!

  • A little disappointed

The book blurb was intriguing so I took the plunge to purchase and read it. Although the stories premise showed promise, I was often distracted by too much unnecessary description of things-people clothes, food, brand names and routes driven or walked. Comments, questions and suggestions ere repeated over and over too many times. And pertinent information seemed to come from unwritten conversations everywhere! There were some moments that were well written and they did keep me reading and searching, but I finished the book feeling it needed simplification to tell the beautuful story trapped amongst the words.

  • From a Good Home

Lots of characters. Lots of minutiae in unnecessary descriptive details that add nothing to the story. Enjoyed the Newfoundland historical perspective. A story that demonstrates the constraints of the past are no longer relevant in present times.
