    Yippie yeah

A gripping read from start to finish. Necromancers, bones and riddles. And swords.

    Gritty, Complex, and Unique

I couldn't resist a book about lesbians and necromancers in space, let alone a book that had black-sprayed edges and a sweet cover! All of this before I started reading it and discovering just how cool and complex of a story it is! Tamsyn Muir has a very distinct style and the way she constructs her sentences and paragraphs forces you to focus. And you want to focus, because I've never read a book like this before. It is complete, thrilling madness, but it also has a very, very complicated magic system that isn't deeply explained and leaves much to the imagination. While I really enjoyed it, I struggled a little bit to understand what the plot is. I just wasn't certain of the grand purpose to everything. That isn't to say the story itself wasn't interesting. There were some excellent moments in the story, including some emotional twists and an unexpected ending. The banter between Gideon and Harrow was among my favourite moments, along with the incredible and unique action scenes. The characters were very engaging, and Gideon is one of the coolest characters in sci fi. She actually matches the swagger on the cover, and her banter always got me smiling. This is a super unique book and perfect for an October read. Highly recommended!

    Excellent, fun and enjoyable yarn.

Get this book when the next in the series is available as you'll more than likely want to read it straight after.

    Unique and superbly written.

An absolute tour-de-force of skeletons, intrigue, thirst-driven teenage hubris, and more skeletons. Stylish, incredibly funny, and as deft with its word choice as its protagonist is with a longsword.
