  • Gritty, Complex, and Unique

I couldn't resist a book about lesbians and necromancers in space, let alone a book that had black-sprayed edges and a sweet cover! All of this before I started reading it and discovering just how cool and complex of a story it is! Tamsyn Muir has a very distinct style and the way she constructs her sentences and paragraphs forces you to focus. And you want to focus, because I've never read a book like this before. It is complete, thrilling madness, but it also has a very, very complicated magic system that isn't deeply explained and leaves much to the imagination. While I really enjoyed it, I struggled a little bit to understand what the plot is. I just wasn't certain of the grand purpose to everything. That isn't to say the story itself wasn't interesting. There were some excellent moments in the story, including some emotional twists and an unexpected ending. The banter between Gideon and Harrow was among my favourite moments, along with the incredible and unique action scenes. The characters were very engaging, and Gideon is one of the coolest characters in sci fi. She actually matches the swagger on the cover, and her banter always got me smiling. This is a super unique book and perfect for an October read. Highly recommended!

  • GAY NECROMANCY SWORD BONE FIGHTS

As an extremely gay person, this novel is everything I have ever wanted in fantsy sci-fi. There's sword lesbian, bone magic lesbian, creepy twin lesbian, hot twin lesbian, and so many more! Fantastic read

  • Poor writing is more style than substance

I think there's a good story in there somewhere, but I struggled with the Tumblr-esque meme writing and the lack of world building to fully grasp it.

  • Terrible hype

This book sucks. The author purposefully utilizes cumbersome words that prevent one from delving into this world, then again, the world is boring and unorigial .
