  • horrible start, but then gets better.

The first 1/4 of this book was a ZERO. I can't believe I continued to read it, but I did... probably because I wanted to see what the good reviews were all about. After Charlie leaves the mental institution and makes her way into the world, the book picks up. As someone who (thankfully) has little/no experience with self-harm, suicide, poverty, prostitution, drug addiction, alcoholism, broken homes, etc... this book did not hit any nerves for me, therefore the mediocre 3 star review. What I liked about the book was the transformation of Charlie... In the beginning she's this semi-mute meek troubled person, but by the end she's really evolved and hopeful.

  • Girl in pieces

I read this book because my niece is a cutter and she was reading it. I was concerned that her reading it would give her permission to keep on cutting. I'm not sure what psychologists would say about it, but it seems that in some respects it is portrayed almost as an elite club. I'm just not sure if such a book helps or hinders young people who are so mixed up.

  • Moving emotional powerful

Anyone living with a demon inside can feel the pain, the isolation. The walls that are built meant to protect only intensifies the storms which rage within. I felt her pain and the inner turmoil. An enlightening read about the drastic attempts taken to calm the words that can't be spoken.
