    Great mystery

Great mystery! This story kept me guessing until almost the end. Loved it! Chessa is an event planner and was celebrating a successful ball, only to start feeling sick. She wakes up the next morning with the police in her house, her husband is dead and they are blaming her. Her father had been railroaded for murder when she was a child and she didn't want the same thing to happen to her. So, she goes on the run to try to clean her name. She really isn't sure who she can trust, the police and the bad guys seem to be just one step behind her.

    Fantasy Reality Murder Mayhem

Girl On the Run by Agatha Award-winning and bestselling author Daryl Wood Gerber is her premier venture into the realm of the suspense/thriller genre. “Be careful what you wish for, it might come true.” is an example of a powerful oxymoronic and paradoxical idea. It is as central to human thought and/or experience today as it was centuries ago. Since the beginning of civilization, people have dreamed of fame or wealth or other good fortune. Do you believe in Fairy Tales? Fairy Tale Balls? What would you do if you attended a Happily Ever After Ball and everything turned out wrong? Chessa, the lead character, wakes up after the Happily Ever After Ball in her bedroom lying next to her dead husband. Following standard procedure, the police immediately suspect Chessa killed her spouse so she sneaks out of the house and goes on the run so she can attempt to clear her name. In a tightly woven plot with many twists and turns, the dead body count quickly rises. Despite a mix of awful circumstances, Chessa is a young woman with marked resilience, fortitude and determination. As a reader, I couldn’t stop wanting to see vindication for Chessa, willing her to survive and succeed in clearing her name and reputation while, literally, on the run. This is, without a doubt, one of the best suspense novels I have ever read. You will not be able to set this book down and the ending will definitely surprise you. "Girl on the Run" skillfully combines fantasy, reality; murder, mayhem, and “can’t put the book down” reading enjoyment! Girl on the Run is a detailed chilling tale with a tangled web of National and International intrigue that is riveting. The conniving, convincing, conflicted characters face impossible choices, the tension is real and may be all too close to the truth. I was happy to read a thriller without explicit sex or vile language, yet filled with multiple, unanticipated twists and turns that keep me turning the pages! Daryl Wood Gerber’s first top-notch action suspense thriller is a must read! Full Disclosure – An advance review copy of this book was sent to me by the author in hopes I would provide an unbiased, honest review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed in this review are my own. And to be perfectly honest - I LOVED THIS book!!!!

    Engaging Suspense Novel

GIRL ON THE RUN features everything a good suspense novel should: mystery, nonstop action, and a surprise ending. The heroine is someone you can relate to and root for, and her plight keeps you reading. I also appreciated the Lake Tahoe setting, which is a nice break from most of the suspense I read set in big cities. Overall, a good book and one that fans of this genre should enjoy. Disclosure: I won a free copy of this book in a giveaway.

Thrilling Run Through Lake Tahoe Secrets

This suspenseful novel is a thrilling run through Lake Tahoe. Chessa thinks she is having a perfect evening. The Fairy Tale ball she organized is a success. The next morning she wakes up next to dead husband with no memory. The police are sure she is guilty. She knows the only way to prove her innocence is to go on the run and solve the crime herself. Trying to stay one step ahead of the police and the people trying to kill her she navigates through Lake Tahoe's High Society and discovers their secrets as well as secrets about her own family. The author does a good job of keeping the suspense going. The ending does have a surprising twist. Enjoy this fast paced thriller. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review

So happy she branched from Cozies to Thrillers!

Daryl Wood Gerber, who is known for her Cookbook Nook Mystery series, has taken the plunge and wrote a thriller, for which she did a fantastic job. Anyone who likes John Grisham, Scott Turow, Steve Martini, or Joseph Finder will definitely enjoy this book. Or if you’re a fan of The Fugitive (either TV series or movie), you’ll want to give this one a read. I was drawn to this one, not only because I read the Final Sentence, the first book in the Cookbook Nook cozy series, and really enjoyed it, but it drew me in because of the fairy tale ball, and that it’s a thriller written by a woman. So many are written by men, as evident from my list in the above paragraph, that it’s wonderful to find a female author that writes Thrillers. At the ball, Chessa is already seeing things that don’t quite make sense, putting her on edge. Shortly afterwards, she wakes up next to her dead husband, and events really start moving fast. Gerber does a wonderful job keeping the tension up and the action moving. There are so many secrets, and continual threats to Chessa, that you want to keep reading to see what happens next. Besides the mystery and action scenes, Gerber has written really well developed characters. There are ones I disliked, and others, besides Chessa, that I was rooting for. There are complex family relationships, that really shine towards the end of the book. And one thing that I really enjoy about Thrillers, compared to Cozies, is that it’s often harder to figure out the bad people, and what their motives might be. Gerber did not disappoint in that regard, and had me wondering until near the end. A fantastic foray into the Thriller genre, and one I highly recommend you read.
