  • The gods of jade and sun.

Starts a little slow but I got into it. I'd read it again.

  • Reminescent of Jemisen and Gaiman

Moreno-Garcia weaves an intriguing tale of gods and heroes where the old religions fall away and the real gods of locale endure. Young love and ancient mysteries evolve.

  • Unique in every way

This fantasy romance with Aztec mythology was what I needed when I felt a bit low. The character of Hun-kame is adorable and frightening at the same time. Great writing.

  • Gods of Jade and Shadow

Morena-Garcia's work isnt exactly bad, but it certainly isnt good. The text reads like a young adult novel with cliche characters and plotline; while the setting amidst Mayan mythology is unique it comes off as closer to a graduate school writing experiment than a serious literary effort: imagine Cinderella and Pandora's Box within ancient Mayan cosmology. The result is an interesting idea that quickly begins to grate on one's nerves as the story devolves into a teenage fantasy, more Percy Jackson than Circe.

  • Simple plot but slow pacing

I had high hopes for this book. I was slightly disappointed with its slow pacing. Story line was simple and not overly exciting.
