    Gary Sinise's Story-Must Reading

A wonderful chronicle of the life of Gary Sinise and all of the wonderful things he has done and continues to do for America's finest. Tears will come to your eyes as you read the stories of the many defenders and first responders portrayed in this book. I highly recommend this book to our younger citizens, for it depicts the lives, tragedies, bravery and resiliency of people that are not much older than high school and college students today.

    Absolutely Wonderful Read!

Everything about this book is terrific - the subject matter, the writing and the totally genuine concern for our nation's military heroes and first responders. This is a very special narrative by someone who is truly what the title says - a very grateful American.

    Grateful American

I had been wanting to read Gary Sinise’s Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service since I saw an interview, he did promoting it on a podcast. I was excited when I had the opportunity to receive a copy for an honest review. Mr. Sinise tells his life story starting with his growing up years, his road to become an actor, how he got the role on the award-winning film Forrest Gump and other successful movies and shows he was part of, and most importantly how he became involved with The Gary Sinise Foundation. I found Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service to be a fascinating and interesting read. I liked getting a glimpse into this actor’s beginnings. He was quite candid on his life. He discusses his parents and siblings, as well as, his love of his life. He was quite the rebel in his younger years. I had to giggle when he told about his marriage and their wedding night. I was surprised to find that he seems to shy away from the Hollywood scene or not be within the “inner circle”. I admire what he strives to do honoring the veterans and responders. I love his compassion on what he does for this community. Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service is most definitely a must read. I highly recommend it for all readers who want to learn more about the life of this admirable actor, The Gary Sinise Foundation and what he has done for American veterans and responders over the years. After reading it, I am a grateful American knowing that my country has Mr. Sinise on its side. Grateful American: A Journey from Self to Service is getting a very well deserved five plus stars. This heartwarming book is a great read. Job well done, Mr. Sinise! I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

    Simple, honest, grateful

I have always enjoyed watching the movies and TV shows that Gary Sinise has acted in. I had known before reading the book that he did some philanthropic work like USO tours and he was part of the Lt Dan band. But just didn't know how much and how far that work really reached. Grateful America is a memoire style book penned by Gary Sinise that takes you on an adventure over 40+ years of his life. It starts off in a high school in Chicago where you learn how he fell in love with acting, through meeting his amazing wife Moira, spreading his acting skills from the theater stage to the movie and TV screen. It is written in a simple first-person view as if he was sitting right beside you and telling the story in person. Gary is honest about some of the life struggles he and his family has gone through as well as sharing those great times as well. He is a simple man who spends his life wanting "To Do More" for the current and retired members of the military and first responders. And not just the members themselves, but you also see how through different programs he has also helped the families of these serving members. You learn where this passion started from and how it continues to grow and just doesn't stop. You feel the desire he has to want to help and the heartfelt gratitude he has for those who put a uniform on. I have really enjoyed reading this book. And I think everyone should read it and maybe take a page from his story and try "To do more" for those around us. I received a copy from the publisher Harper Collins, through NetGalley in exchange for my review. Any and all opinions are my own.

    Wonderful

Being an army brat, I loved this book. This is just one mans journey to support our defenders. The way it’s told with the good, bad and ugly makes you understand what our men go through and how hard it is.
