Finished the final book by Mary Gibson and going through withdrawals. Another fantastic read continuing the Bermondsey war story which was thoroughly enjoyed and I highly recommend this writer. Thank you so much for your wonderful stories.

I have read a number of books set during WWII Britain but they have been episodic in that each book seems devoted to one year. Here is a family saga that covers the entire sweep of Britain's war and the many relationships that entails. May's uncanny knack of always finding her way home sees so many things happen to her until her final realisation that home doesn't have to be a physical place. Peggy's war is marred by an unhappy marriage and a brief glimpse of happiness. In the meantime May and Peggy's parents deal with the Blitz in the best ways they can, dealing with loss, heartbreak, tragedy and moments of uplifting joy that are few. The details of May's war experiences in the ATS reveal the cameraderie and closeness that only war can bring. But it is the men in this novel who round it out - Dad, so determined to protect his home, George, always out for what he can get, Harry, whose children provide the links between one life and another, and the ever faithful Bill. The author's dedication says it all. This is a truly worthwhile read.
