An interesting but thin take on colonization

I have to admit. Wool spoiled me and I had anticipated something as powerful with this novel. This is still a good read but the character development is devoted solely to the hero figure. The others around him are barely sketched in. The plot premise is shaky in my opinion ( I can sort of accept corporations to dominate exploration but not national corporations. I can't thing in a world of national space exploration that nation states themselves wouldn't be sending colony ships out) but the flow of the plot is well paced. The alien life forms with the exception of the Vinnies are just a backdrop for the humans - do discussion of what they were or what place in the ecosystem they served. Not his best work.

    Dull with unlikeable characters

Quite boring. Got three quarters if the way thru, then decided to stop. Disapointing because i like other books by this author.
