    excellent story, well written

Well written, based on real events and people. Written with love and compassion, but not bias. It was moving, heart wrenching, and sad.

    A fascinating and terrifying glimpse

A privilege to see into the experience of the patient, this story is both fascinating & terrifying. Treatment of the mentally ill has come a long way but this story reminds us how cruel we can be, when we don’t understand. Should be a “must read” for anyone associated with mental illness.

Excellent but unsettling read at the same time.

This was written with compassion and empathy. Having had a member of my family institutionalized, I am well aware of the cruelty these poor souls were subjected to. Even at that, this story was still unsettling. Being the same age as the author, I can feel her struggle. Excellent read that gives us an insight into the pain that is inflicted unnecessaryily.
