    Enjoyable

I really enjoyed this. The characters were engaging and the storyline really kept me interested, I ended up reading it in one sitting. All in all a very enjoyable read and nice addition to the MM fantasy genre.

Good start to a new serial.

Hearts of Fire is the first book in a new serial by Kay Doherty and I really enjoyed it. You may wonder why I used the term serial instead of series. It’s because this book has a cliffhanger and in my mind these types of books are not really series because the story is not concluded in this book. I don’t usually read books with cliffhangers unless I know the author’s work well. I’ve been burned too many times by cliffhangers where the second book never comes out, or takes so long to come out that I’ve lost interest. Now, all of that being said, this really was a pretty good story and I do plan to read the rest of the books. The blurb pretty much tells you everything you need to know (except that there is a cliffhanger). I’ve never read a story quite like this before. There are dragons and wolves and an elemental. The wolves were all turned out of their packs for one reason or another and they have formed their own little pack. Inside the book there is a warning for “homicidal and suicidal ideations, and graphic violence.” It might have been better if this warning were included as part of the blurb. The author has introduced several concepts that I haven’t encountered in other paranormal romances I’ve read (I admit that I haven’t read a lot of them, though). The pairing of a dragon and a wolf and the pairing of an elemental and a wolf were new to me. It’s these unusual pairings that seem to form the basis for the series but we don’t really find out why until pretty far into the story. This was an easy read for me and I finished it quickly. I think if you enjoy paranormal romance, and don’t mind the cliffhanger, then you will probably like this book. ***Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions dot com***
