Awesome start to a new series!

What a neat concept this author has chosen. "We dive so humanity survives". This book will keep you crossing your fingers and clenching your teeth at the roller coaster action! Don't start this book at night, you'll end up staying up way too late.

    Awesome

Another amazing book by Nick Smith. The idea of scavenging a desolate Earth to keep a ship in the air was great! The amount of suffering makes you really relate to the characters. Well done Nick!

    A fantastic post-apocalyptic tale!

Where do I begin with this story? After completing this book (audible edition), I can easily say that it is at the top of my favorites list. From start to finish, Helldivers kept me engaged and wanting to listen more. R.C. Bray was the perfect choice for narration of this book as he brought the characters to life (I have always been a fan of Bray’s and this was a perfect way to introduce me to the great works of Nicholas Smith). The story of humanity destroying itself and being forced to live above the earth due to poisoning of the ground is not one that seems far-fetched. This aspect of the story drew me in as it helped me paint a realistic picture of what could happen should we decide to engage in an all-out nuclear war, mistreat the nuclear capabilities we develop as a species, and abuse what mother nature has provided for our single planet. Set in the future after massive destruction has plagued the earth, Captain Ash and her team of hell divers are continuing their journey of finding a habitable location on planet earth for the remainder of humanity. Two ships remain, carrying what is left of humanity, and they must seek out critical supplies designed to keep their floating homes in the air, safe from the disaster and unknown dangers which lurk on the ground. Character development, for me, is a huge part of any book and Nicholas does not disappoint in this area. We have X, a veteran helldiver who has more dives under his belt than any diver in history. He dives so that humanity survives (as is the motto of the teams). X finds himself facing various challenges throughout the story as he continues the dangerous job of pushing to the surface of the planet in search of supplies and intelligence. But what happens when one of the two remaining transports for humanity has a problem? I won’t spoil it, but this sci-fi story keeps you on edge with what feels like a very plausible scenario. I simply cannot think of a downside to this story other than the fact that books 2 and 3 are not available yet. The combination of sci-fi creatures and futuristic scenarios draws one in to a dystopian future brought about by carelessness on the part of humanity. Great work, Mr. Smith! And to anyone reading this review, go read this book now. You will not regret it!

    Edge of your seat

Enjoyed this book quite a lot. The ending put me in funk, then lifted me, then put me in a funk again. Perhaps the second book will eradicate the funk.

A devastated world rich in detail and suspense!

Nicholas Sansbury Smith has done it again! This story delivers his distinctive rapid-fire action, powerful characterizations and ingenious new twists on familiar tropes. He has masterfully created not one, but TWO desperate worlds. First is the ravaged earth two hundred fifty years after nuclear holocaust. The other is roughly twenty thousand feet above the planet’s surface in massive dirigibles never designed with long-term human housing in mind. There’s a great deal going on here and it all plays out magnificently. My favorite character, Xavier “X” Rodriguez, is the perfect anti-hero. Self-absorbed. Tormented. Flawed. His skydiving scenes are breathtakingly realistic. Even my husband, who has thousands of jumps under his belt (albeit never into a post-apocalyptic nuclear stew) was very impressed. We both highly recommend this intrepid new series.
