    Boring

I read this because it was so highly rated as the best haunted house story ever written. I found it boring, slow and predictable. The characters weren't likeable and the story just drifted along until the anticlimactic end.

    Arrrrgh

If you love a good haunted house story then this is for you. Yes we've all watched poltergeist, house on haunted hill and the Amityville horror but this book is fun! The ghost reminds me a little of Rasputin, the set is nothing that unusual but the paranormal investigators who are central to the story really pull everything together because they clash so much. The scientist, the medium and the non believer all have opposing views on how and why the house has been haunted. The theme of faith and lack of faith strongly pulls the narrative together with just enough shock and violence to keep even the most robust readers satiated. Enjoy.

Hell house not as scary as Amityvill

A decent horror story that uses extreme acts to shock the reader more than scare them. The excessive use of the grotesque almost takes away from the fear that could be inspired in the reader. Not chilling, but worth reading for any fan of horror books or for any fan of the macabre.

    Not that great

I found it really stereotypical of a haunted mansion book.
