    A fun retelling of fairytales

Will she see in time what counts the most ... It is my first read by the author in a different genre, I liked the addition of magic in her story. This is a fun retelling of Beauty and Beast, The Princess and the pea with a dash of Celtic legend. Duncan is such a sweetheart, for his one act of bravoure, he was cruelly rewarded by the loss of his mother and a horrible curse. Thus he spent the second half of his short life a prisoner of his own home, a lonely life with few hope to lighten it. Evina, an orphan with no memory, knows only one thing, she can’t die, while others do. It has been her curse and her path since she became a mercenary. When she finds shelter in Duncan’s home, new possibilities are offered to her, will she take the right journey. I loved Duncan, despite his predicament, he refused to impede Evina’s course to her own future, choosing death over denying her her freedom. 4.25 stars I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

    a great romance

This is an author that I follow quite closely. Anytime she publishes a book, I read it. I recently was gifted a copy of Her Highland Beast to read. It is a combination of Beauty and the Beast and The Princess and the Pea fairy tales. I usually don’t read fantasy as a genre, but when this author publishes a story, I grab it regardless. I enjoyed it. Great pacing and fabulous characters.

Mix of fairytales, touched my heart

I enjoyed this story again, as I had read it as part of an anthology a couple years ago. It was a mix of a couple fairytales which touched my heart once more as things came to a head. Evina and Duncan complemented each other with a strong attraction to the other. They made a wonderful couple. I recommend this story. This is my unsolicited review.

    Fairytale romance

Her Highland Beast is a combination of a Fairytale and Medieval romance. It blends the fairytales of Beauty and the Beast and the Princess and the Pea with Medieval times. It was a short story, so I was easily able to read it in one sitting. It was a whimsical fairytale with a small amount of darkness. Duncan MacLean had been cursed by his mother’s maid when they had been attacked while he was saving a young girl. If a daughter of Morrigan did not fall in love with him by the time the last leaf fell off the enchanted rowan tree, he would die. He spent the rest of his life watching the tree and guarding it to make sure no one removed a leaf. He was immediately enchanted with Evina and had such hope that she could save him. He fell in love with her and then had to choose between Evina meeting her mother or his own life. Evina MacGregor had lived her entire life looking for information about her parents. She traveled as a mercenary and was cursed in never dying. Arriving at the rowan tree, she could feel the enchantment of the area. She was excited that Duncan had information about her parents and would be able to meet her mother. She didn’t know about Duncan’s curse and his sacrifice until it was almost too late. I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
