  • Her Perfect Life

Her Perfect Life (Hank Phillippi Ryan) is about a TV reporter, her daughter, and her missing sister. Lily hasn't seen her sister in years and doesn't know if she's dead or alive. Ms Ryan tells the story from a couple of different points of view and some back and forth in time. As the past catches up with Lily she has to decide what she really wants in her life. I want to thank NetGalley and Forge Books for an early copy to review.

  • #PerfectLily

#PerfectLily. That is the hashtag Lily Atwood’s fans have created for her. After all, the beloved television reporter appears to have it all — Emmys, fame and fortune and her beautiful seven year old daughter. To keep her fairy tale life going, she just has to do one thing. She must protect a a life-altering secret. This secret is so big that it would not be the Story of the Year; rather, it would be the Story of the Century! Her source, who has always been so accurate, suddenly starts sending her bizarre tips related to her own life. Who is set out to destroy #PerfectLily? Author Hank Phillippi Ryan brings out all the elements of an excellent suspense novel in Her Perfect Life. She has loaded this powerful suspense read with a well-crafted plot, multidimensional characters, it’s an intense thriller and a plethora of twists and turns that will keep you guessing to the very end! This novel showcases Ryan’s many writing talents with one being her carefully crafting characters and giving them such personalities that you won’t soon forget them. In my opinion, she will always be one of the top suspense/thriller writers. I was provided a complimentary copy of this novel by Forge Books and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

  • Excellence as always from author Ryan

Hank Phillippi Ryan is back again, using her own vast experience as a television reporter and her wickedly good talent, giving us a glimpse into the personal and professional life of a television reporter and showing us that what we see or what we think we know isn’t always the way it is. Perfect isn’t always as fantastic as you think it’s going to be. And once you’ve been declared perfect, living a perfect life, that’s a hard state to maintain, a high pedestal to remain on. Who wouldn’t want to be Boston TV reporter Lily Atwood? She has fame, fortune, lots of Emmys, and to boot she’s gorgeous with the cutest seven-year-old daughter and an adoring public. What’s not to love – and envy? Well, maybe the fact that Lily has an anonymous news source she thought was brilliant, always providing clues and direction to the best stories. But now Mr. Smith is digging into Lily’s past, and that terrifies her. What does her longtime producer Greer know? She seems to have a few secrets of her own. Is everything as rosy as it seems, or are there things Lily and maybe Greer will go to any lengths to protect? Her Perfect Life is full of twists, turns, thrills, suspense, quite the roller-coaster ride. There are unexpected, surprising connections between characters. Characters with their own motives and agendas. And not even Perfect Lily is without faults and flaws and hidden motives. At some point everyone’s motives come into question and you don’t know what to expect. But what we have come to expect is excellence from author Hank Phillippi Ryan, and we definitely get it in abundance with Her Perfect Life. Thanks to author Ryan and Forge Books for providing an advance copy of Her Perfect Life for my reading pleasure (and nail-biting page turning!) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved it and you will too! All opinions are my own.

  • Too Many Plot Holes

Lily is a news reporter with a secret source, she doesn't even know who it is, then suddenly this source reveal itself and knows Lily's secret. Lily has a seven year old daughter, Rowan who's father is a married man. Lily tried to keep Rowan out of the spotlight and away from prying eyes. Greer is Lily's producer/assistant for the last two years. Greer would really love to find Lily's secret and become a revered reporter herself. We also hear from Lily's sister, Cassie, in before chapters. Sounds great, right!? I read The First to Lie by Hank Phillippi Ryan and really enjoyed it, a lot...so much so I clicked five stars for it...sooooo when it came around to asking for this ARC it was a no-brainer and I moved it to the top of my list to read. Unfortunately this didn't live up to my excitement. I was enjoying this decent story in the beginning and middle but as other reviewers have mentioned; for being investigative reporters Lily and Greer were quite naive and gullible. And the ending with all the plot holes really ruined an okay read for me.

  • Not my favorite

I love author Hank Phillippi Ryan's books generally, but this one fell short for me. I tried and tried to really like it but I just could not get into it. I think there was too much "perfect Lily" going on and then there was her jealous, catty assistant Greer. The characters were not likeable. It was told in a dual timeline 25 years apart with multiple narrators and that caused confusion at times. It did seem to get better in the second half but by then I had lost interest. Thank you NetGalley and Forge Books for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
