Review: The Valentine Boys 1: Herd That

Herd That by Lani Lynn Vale is the first book in her brand new series The Valentine Boys . Set in the outskirts of small town of Kilgore, Texas this series is ALL about the Valentine brothers. We met the Valentine sister, Georgia, in Nico’s book, Double Tap part of the Code 11-KPD SWAT series. As such, we get some more glimpses into Nico & Georgia’s HEA (swoon). But the VALENTINE BROTHERS - PHEW!!! Talk about good looking, full of personality, and totally ready for their own stories! Ace Valentine and Codie Spears may have grown up in the same town but with him being a couple of years ahead of her in school and his family tragedy and her rebellious teen actions they never really met until the day she had to take her grandpa’s cattle to auction. Both suffering from preconceived notions of the other they quickly find their assumptions are wrong. Codie is attracted to Ace - for sure - but doesn’t feel worthy of his attention. With everything she got into in high school her reputation precedes her as “trash”. Ace is pleasantly surprised by the firecracker five foot tall beauty that is Codie and is quite sure from day one that he will make her his. Convincing her of this without scaring her off is a completely different story. For a Lani Lynn Vale book, this was mostly drama and danger free. The story was still insta-love but had a slower build to it. It was a pleasant change of pace from her Swat and PD books and I look forward to more of the Valentine boys in this format. Enjoy!

    soo good

LLV's writing style is just perfect. She makes you fall in love with the characters within the first chapter and then you're hooked like a junkie! I loved this book, loved the others and simply can't wait for Darby's story.

    Entertaining

5 Star Review Herd That (The Valentine Brothers #1) by Lani Lynn Vale   Book one in the latest series from Lani Lyn Vale and she is off to a good start. This series is a bit of a departure from other books by the author in that it is about Cowboys. I really liked Ace Valentine and the woman who intrigued him, Codie Spears. Codie has been told one too many times that she isn’t good enough by the people of her home time, that she now believes it to be true. Ace cannot get her out of his mind, he is convinced she will make a great rancher’s wife and sets out to woo her. This may be my favourite book from Lani Lynn Vale to date. I fell hard and fast for Ace (just his name made me swoon), he ticked so many boxes that it was hard not too. I loved how determined and focused he was on everything Codie says; totally swoon worthy. This was a fun and entertaining book that had me invested from the start. I am looking forward to seeing what she has in store for the Valentine brothers.

    Great Cowboy Romance

Gahhh…I love me some cowboys. They are probably my favorite to read. Something about a hardworking, fine, swoonworthy man in wranglers and boots just gets me. LOL. But anyway this book was awesome. I loved the characters and their banter. I liked how it never lost pace and the flow kept me going steady all the way to the end. Great book!

So glad the Valentine boys are getting their HEAs!

We were introduced to the Valentine Family in Nico and Georgia's book, Double Tap which is part of the KPD Swat series. Georgia is the older sister of the Valentine brothers. In that story, we were given the back story about the tragedy that nearly destroyed their family, as well as how they were trying to reinvent themselves, in their hometown. Now it's time for the Valentine Brothers to find their HEA. LLV has a reputation for MC stories, as well as military and first responders being the main characters in her stories. The fact that The Valentine brothers are cowboys is a step outside of what we normally get from her. I have to say, I think it was a step in the right direction, because cowboys are HOT!!!!! Ace Valentine is trying to make his family ranch a success, despite the bad history he has in his home town. He's a hard working, puts everything that he has in him into making that dream a reality. He doesn't think he has the time, or the want, for a relationship, until one glimpse of Codie changes everything. Codie was a bad girl. She got into a lot of trouble as a teenager, and moved away as soon as she was able. Now, family obligations have pulled her back to the town of her childhood, and those mistakes just won't go away. She doesn't think she will ever be able to move on from them, but Ace knows what he wants, and will do what he has to convince her that she is meant to be his. I absolutely cannot get enough of Ace and Codie! Their story was fun, and totally different from everything else I've read recently. Still in keeping with everything I love from this author, as well as being connected to other much lived characters, this series promises to take LLV's stories to a whole new level. I can't wait to see what she has in store for the other Valentine Boys!
