    The Last Tale?

I've followed the story of Drizzt Do'Urden since picking up the Crystal Shard back in '95. I have faithfully followed Drizzt from his youth to middle (elven) years a delighted fan of Salvatores exceptional writing. Hero does not disappoint. While totted as the "final" Drizzt tale for awhile the last page tells the reader the Salvatore isn't completely done yet, there's another tale to tell. This one itself though is much like the last series, jumping around from various groups telling us a reaching tale across the distant face of Faerun. During Maestro I was pulling on my hair wondering what was happening to Regis and Wulfgar, and true to form the following book begins with the tying up of their tale. The read is great, the insights into Drizzts new sense of existence telling in ways just reading the story itself could not hope to convey. Loose plot lines are tied together. Unforseen alliances are made. A brighter future for the World Above is laid out for WotC to build upon. If it truly is the last tale of Drizzt, one will not go into the night disappointed. Or if it is as before, a mere hiatus with a hopeful return of more Drizzt down the road... Again Salvatore does not disappoint with leaving you a bread crumb to chew on, to scream at the page or screen tossing money to the wind demanding MOAR NOW! So why 4 out of 5 instead of 5 out of 5? It's the 'surprise' about face of one of the key figures in the tale. Why this individual does what is done defies what all prior books lead you to understand about their nature. A change thrown in to make the end survivable for Drizzt? It's just too much of an about face to connect with, it ties back to the 'Death of Drizzt' mid series where you as a reader are left scratching your head and wondering WHY? HOW? Lloth surely can't see everything but how does she overlook this?! The abruptness of this character change is just too abrupt and feels rushed.

    Hero

I so hope this is not the last book. To leave it like this would be a great let down for all of us that have followed Dritz all these years.

    Hero's

This trilogy stayed it's course, as I read through the chapters in realized there were more than one hero in this book. Just goes to show you your trust in yourself is for the best.

    Hero. R.A. Salvatore

I've been reading his works since I was a child and it never ceases to surprise, entertain, and enthrall me. Can't wait to see where his work goes in the future!
