    Good read

Good read *3.5 star*A great MC story with a strong female lead character and a swoon worthy lead male. Cassidy was raised around the Brothers of Mayhem. Her father was their ex president so she knows full well what the life is like and she's determined to keep her brother out of it. She's always been protected because of who her father was but things are changing and her latest bout of temper against the Brothers has her in deep water. That is until the club bartender Thorn Savalas comes to her rescue. Turns out Thorn isn't quite what he seems to be! The overall book was good but there were parts that I felt a bit lost in. Not sure I understand all the club stuff even now. The ending seemed a bit rushed and had a lot of info thrown in. Still not a bad book and one I would recommend.

This one surprised me in a good way!

Not usually a fan of MC (Motorcycle Club) romances, I was a bit hesitant reading HIDDEN HEAT by Carla Swafford but having read her Circle series, I knew she could pack a wallop when she needed to so I took a chance. I’m glad I did. This story was about more than bikers, causing trouble, and behavior bordering on misogynistic. It was tough but emotional, forgiving, and steamy as all get out. Cassidy is a woman with her own mind. Yeah, there were a few times when I thought she pushed the envelope a bit in her defense of her brother, Storm but hey, she is a badass biker chick. But then there is Thorn…hey, he could bring out the femininity in any woman, even the most badass like Cassidy. Carla is good at conjuring real men in her stories and that’s what you get with Thorn. He is sex personified. He’s everything you’d expect from a biker but then he’s not. The pairing was perfect. HIDDEN HEAT, book one in the Brothers of Mayhem series by Carla Swafford is action from the start and it just keeps going. There’s so much going on in the story that you have to stay glued to it just to keep track. I do think the ending felt a bit rushed but it worked so I can’t complain too much. However, it would’ve been nice if it lasted just a little bit longer so I didn’t have to say good-bye to Thorn yet. If you’re a fan of MC romance, you’ve got to read HIDDEN HEAT by Carla Swafford. If you’re like me, and kind of on the edge, give it a try because I think it might surprise you as much as it did me. ***eARC provided by author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

    Awesome new MC series!

Hidden Heat is the first installment in Carla Swafford's new Brothers of Mayhem MC series. This exciting new series will have readers on the edge of their seat and begging for more. Cassidy Ryder will do anything to protect her brother from getting wrapped up with the Brothers of Mayhem motorcycle club, even if that means putting herself in danger. After watching the club destroy her parents you would think Cassidy and her brother would have learned to stay away. Instead it just added extra appeal, but Cassidy learned when she was 16 that the appeal doesn't out weigh the danger of being associated with them. When her brother Storm decides he wants to become a Prospect of the club Cassidy is willing to do anything to stop him even if that means making herself a direct target. Thorn Savalas isn't all he appears to be. As the bartender at the clubs watering hole, Thorn looks the part of a badass biker, down to his Brothers of Mayhem leather cut. But underneath that gruff exterior is a drop dead sexy cop who is hell-bent on bringing down the Brothers of Mayhem. He has worked too long undercover for anything to stop him. But when Cassidy walks into the bar wielding a baseball bat and attitude, Thorn will risk everything to save her from the Brothers, even if that means risking his own agenda. This book was awesome! I loved the chemistry between Cassidy and Thorn and his determination to keep Cassidy safe. This is a definite must read and I cannot wait for more books from this series! I received an eARC of this book from the publisher for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.

    Loved it!

I loved this book - it's filled with hot romance and plenty of suspense when Cassidy enters the Mayhem MC bar in looking for her 17 year old brother. She has tried to keep him away from the MC since she was a little girl, but he is adamant that he will join the MC and follow in their father's footsteps. It is a bad idea and as soon as she enters, she gets in trouble with the Skull (club president). Thorn is the bartender and an undercover cop investigating the club. He comes to Cassidy's defense in the only way an MC understands.....as his old lady. Cassidy is quick to play along, despite her near constant tension with the Skull and other members. What follows is plenty of sexiness and suspense as Thorn tries to find the stolen goods, protect his cover, protect Cassidy, and not fall in love. This is not the typical MC novel that is so popular these days where the girl falls in love with a bad boy who really isn't so bad and all the guys love and take care of their old ladies. The guys in the Mayhem MC are not nice - you'd be hard pressed to find anything nice about them. It's a refreshing change from the glamorization of MCs in those books. Fans of the genre will love this book. I have added the author to my must read authors' list.

    Left me with mixed feelings

As the daughter of the former president of the Brothers of Mayhem MC Cassidy Ryder is biker royalty, not that it matters to her. All she wants is to get her younger brother out of the clutches of the MC before he's too far gone and she doesn't plan on letting anyone or anything get in the way of her goal. Only, she forgot her place in the hierarchy and only the quick intervention of a stranger saves her from landing in a world of hurt or worse. Thorn Savalas is an undercover cop tasked with bringing down the Brothers of Mayhem and he can't let Cassidy throw a wrench in his plans nor is he going to sit by and let her get hurt. When Thorn stepped up to save Cassidy and declared her his old lady, I was excited about how their romance would play out, especially with her feisty and fiery way of going at things. Between the sheets, everything was as hot as I expected. But beyond that is where I had issues. There is a line between feisty and foolish and it didn't take long for Cassidy to cross it, in my opinion. For someone who grew up in an MC, she was really careless about her safety and spent whatever capital her connections had bought her by mouthing off at men who could and would do whatever they wanted to her without any fear of repercussions. Luckily for her, Thorn was really patient and protective and stood between her and the rest of the MC. I decided to tackle genres that I have previously avoided this year and MC romances fall into that category. There have been some hits and misses along the way and HIDDEN HEAT falls somewhere in the middle. Ms. Swafford captures the gritty and dissolute lifestyle that is expected in a way that was too real and sometimes uncomfortable, as well as the illicit nature of their dealings. However, my lack of complete enjoyment of this book can be attributed mostly to Cassidy. She was immature, reckless and out of control in an annoying way. The end of the story left me with a lot more questions than answers, but I'll still recommend checking it out for yourself.
