“The world is not so orderly…people and lives are messy with emotions and reasons not everyone knows….” Being raised as one of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, Gideon Sinclair has been known and feared for being the harbinger of justice…no one was above the law, and Gideon stood before those accused as both their judge and if need be, executioner. So, when he stumbles upon a thief in his bedchamber, he’s ill prepared for the kiss he’s given by the lass and even more surprised to discover she’s non-other than Cait MacKay, the same beauty he had met in the woods. As Gideon works towards rebuilding the trust between the Sinclair and MacKay Clans, he's continuously drawn to Cait and her strength, compassion and beauty. But when she’s accused by one of King James’ men of treason, can Gideon let go of his years of training being the Horseman of Justice, or will his heart tip the scales… Heather McCollum has become my one click must read for highland romance and adventure! With her the Sons of Sinclair series, I totally keep adding highland hotties to my book boyfriend list! Loved and highly recommend! **I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. **

  • Trying to find balance between justice and love

Gideon is the most dedicated of the four Sinclair sons, fully dedicated to their roles as the Four Horsemen from the Bible as drilled into them by their now-deceased father. He has had to find his own self-worth through his application of justice, yet when he meets the desperate yet beloved Cait Mackay, he starts to question just who he is and who he has to be. Cait's life has been anything but just, yet she's become a compassionate, caring leader who runs a small orphanage and will do quite literally anything to provide for her young charges. She demonstrates that wisdom, patience, and mercy are essential to true justice, and she challenges him to do the right thing, regardless of what the rules say. I loved their slow, sensuous love story, and I actually laughed out loud at the events that relegated the king to the second-best quarters in the castle! I adored the inclusion of historical figures, including King James, and the author's inclusion of quotes from various laws throughout history was elucidating and provided great context for the dilemmas that Gideon faced. I loved the emphasis on learning and the value of books, and welcomed the timely commentary on today's politics. This is a tremendously satisfying continuation of the Sons of Sinclair series, and I'm looking forward to reading more from this talented author. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

  • Loved Cait and Gideon

Really loved Cait and Gideon. They had great chemistry. And I don't think I've read anything with an aerialist heroine. They also use this in the bedroom and that was interesting. For Gideon Sinclair there is good and there is evil, no in-between and he efficiently passes judgment without mercy. He's trying to integrate the Mackays into the Sinclair clan. His plan is to sort of the bad and punish them and to help the good people lead better lives. Until he meets Cait MacKay. Cait is a young widow caring for her younger sister and the orphans of the clan. But putting food on the table isn't easy, so she's resorted to taking a few coins from Gideon. When she realizes that the pouch contained more than she thought, she tries to return it but she's caught. Now she has to face Gideon. He arrests her and she spends the night in the dungeon. Not that he really wants to put her there. The next morning villagers show up to vouch for her and he gets a glimpse of what the MacKays really think about him. So he changes her punishment and puts her in charge of preparing for the Hogmanay festivities for the village. Thanks so much to the author, Entangled and NetGalley for this ARC to review.

  • Highland Justice

If ever an author has found the perfect genre that suits her 100%, it's Heather McCollum! Between her style of writing, her imagination and the inexhaustible research, her stories are amazing. The Sons of Sinclair series just keeps getting better and better and I absolutely adored Gideon and Cait's story. This story made me laugh, cry, sit on the edge of my seat, gasp, swoon, swear at the bad guys and made me want to smack a king! lol One of my most favourite scenes was the nativity play and Trix dropping baby Jesus (a doll!)....priceless!! My heart went out to Gideon, being judge and jury, not an easy thing to do especially when emotions are involved. As for Cait, such a spitfire but I loved how she cared about the children and would do anything to keep them safe. On a side note, I have a cousin whose daughter is an aerial silk artist and I've had the pleasure of watching her perform a few times. So, in the story when Cait is "flying", I could picture it clearly. So beautiful and graceful!! I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

  • great series

Gideon Sinclair is known throught the land as someone who imparts justice. Although the justice he leves is pretty black and white, at least at the start.. When he meets a beautiful young woman in the woods on his way home he has no idea how her and her family are going to shake him out of his beliefs. Cait is a wonderful woman and defintely one of my new favorite heroines.. She has taken it upon herself to take care of the children who don't have families of their own.. and when her path crosses with Gideon.. and ends up making a deal that will hopefully help him become a little less rigid in his thinking.. and let the people he has taken charge of actually want to approach him, and ask for his help if its needed. She has her work cut out for her. I love watching Gideon fall in love with Cait.. She is slowly teaching him that its ok to bend sometimes and that enforcing all the rules shouldn't fall on his shoulders alone, and that every single rule isn't always ment to be followed to the letter... They have some amazing chemistry.. the kind that might (cough) break the bed.. They are getting along pretty well, when King James arrives and throws a wrench in the mix.. While some bad stuff goes down, as a result it does force our couple to realize that they can trust each other and do LOVE each other.. Its a really sweet story with some edge of your seat action that makes you not want to put it down until you reach the end.. I can't wait to see whats in store for Bas... I know his story is going to be amazing....
