    a well written novella

Highside is this author’s debut novella and the writing is superb. The storyline is engaging and there is good flow between the chapters. While this is a short novella, the characters are relatively well developed and there is a fair amount of meat to the story. Highside is told from a dual POV and I like how the present is from Breanna’s, but the past is told from Jesse’s. It was a great way to see how their relationship started and evolved. I don’t want to spoil the novella, but there is a pretty big secret that Breanna is keeping from Jesse and Jesse pulls a pretty big stunt which gives it just the right amount of drama without being over the top or full of angst. This novella is a prequel for the author’s Between the Lines sports romance series so it paves the way for the next book and gives you hope for that elusive HEA. I received Highside for free and I voluntarily leave this review.

    A great introduction.

Jesse has seen his friend Finn and his sister Brie with bruises and scared before. But when their father put her in the hospital after trying to kill her, Jesse enlisted the help of his parents. So Finn and Brie joined the family. A motorcycle racing family. From the moment Brie joined their household, Jesse was taken with her. This introduction goes through what happens after that. This is an excellent introduction to the character and subject matter that will be in ‘Between the Lines’. The characters, their personalities, experiences and motivations are detailed. The characters are flawed but interesting and personable. I am interested in finding out what happens to them next. The storyline weaves back and forth through time and it is told alternately from the point of view of Brie and Jesse. This add a lot of interest and makes it easier to become familiar with them. I know very little about motorcycle racing but think the author did a great job getting me interested in it. This novella does it job in that it provides a great launching point for the book. I definitely want to read what comes next. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
