    Adversity

It appears to me that every group that has worked hard and succeeded by that work becomes complacent and declines and another gets their chance to rise to the top. Vance relates the decline of his Irish Scots people with no easy solution.

    Hillbilly elgy

What a wonderful and eye-opening book. I am a Canadian and have the same roots Scott Irerish back ground the only difference is I live in Canada so I now and seen similarities that J. D. Vance, life was like I my self experienced and saw around me. So I think there is a little bit of hillbilly in most people that are from my background and ones that are Scott, Irish. Loved the honesty of is bookable great read.

    MAGA

A compelling and honest telling of the lives (fate?) of generations of americans. want to understand the psychology that fuels today's politics of fear and division. Look no further.

    Very compelling

Excellent first person story with insightful opinions. Intelligently discusses one of the most troubling issues of the present era in our country. From my limited experience (of 2 yrs only) it realistically depicts one aspect of the Appalachia experience.

    Not much here

No new lessons learned from the book......man broke out of poverty cycle and left (largely) White hillbilly life behind.
