    Cute cover, cute story!

This book is the first book in the Secret Bond series. The story is about Kendra and Zeke. Kendra has been taking care of her niece ever since her sister and her brother-in-law died in a avalanche. But one day, Zeke knocks on her door, explaining that he is little baby Sara's uncle and that he want custody. Until the will is recovered and the custody is accorded to either one of them, Zeke stays in a cabin next to Kendra and visits. While Kendra and Zeke get to know one another, the custody issue and their different upbringing stands in the way of their relationship. Will they be able to work something out for Sara's sake? I really liked this book. It's a short read, but the characters and story are well developed. It was my first book by Lee Tobin McClain and I will surely check out her other books. This book being the first in the series, the Sacred Bond is explained and the other brothers are introduced. They are the main characters of the other books. I will definitely recommend this book!

    A sad romance

Although this book is clean, it doesn't mean that the players don't fight dirty. Kendra has been taking care of her baby niece ever since her sister and husband died in an accident and when Zeke arrives claiming his rights to the baby girl, Kendra is devastated. In a Christian romance, I was appalled at Zeke's sanctimonious and judgmental attitude and the fact that he felt he could preach at Kendra was a low blow. Having to wait for her sister's lawyer to return home before a custody hearing could be held, gives Kendra and Zeke time to know each other better. However, when the date of the hearing arrives, Zeke is nowhere to be seen and Kendra receives the full brunt of the mud-slinging and underhanded barbs that his lawyers can throw at her. This book certainly aroused my feelings, but they were mostly of indignation and anger at the cruelty being unleashed on Kendra. Although the book does come to a happy ending, I was nevertheless left with feelings of sadness.
