  • Very apt title

    The portrayal of Afi as someone who is there to serve family at her expense to someone who stands up for her own and her son's interest and happiness was very well told

  • Not enough drama

    It’s an easy read. This book started so well, and I expected a lot more. I like learning about different cultures and I have always been intrigued by the idea of polygamy, especially in these modern times. Unfortunately this book felt flat and I was completely bored. It was more like a contemporary Cinderella story without all the drama and pain. A girl trying to deal with taboos and injustices, living in a world of men where you are expected to be beautiful and the perfect wife, Although the main character showed some strong personality, her development was too superficial. I even thought that she was only 16 years old when the marriage was arranged, but she was already 21. The description of wealth was too much and felt unreal, based on circumstances and location. I really wanted to love this book, but...
