    Intense, moving

If you've read the previous book then you know why Kit's in such turmoil at his return to society after being captured by slavers..and JL gives you a real sense of it. The scene where he meets Scher and Edmond again, is almost harrowing.... I liked the story, Rose was a pain but a foil for all the emotional turmoil. I would have liked a better ending, was a bit abrupt and almost silly, perhaps an epilogue to tidy things up. What's next for Kit and Maddy or Alex, the mongrel uncle and esp the rotten cousins, Michael and Lily who shipped Kit off in the first place?
