  • Enchanting mustread

Utterly enchanting, the ladies never fail to bring us beautiful anthologies in the run up to Christmas, I adored reading some favourite stories and adding two more favourites to my list of beloved books.

  • A delightful collection of holiday stories

HOLIDAY ESCAPES is a collection of holiday stories by some of the Bluestocking Belles, a group of historical romance writers. The four novellas which makes up the anthology are a delightful anthology of varied tropes that are sure to please. Although I enjoyed every single story, if I had to choose my very favorite it would be Gingerbread Bride by Jude Knight. It is a heartwarming story of two people who have known each other since childhood. What is most charming is that the h, Mary Pritchard, grew up on a naval ship upon which her father served as the admiral. To help keep her out of trouble, her father assigned Lieutenant Rick Redepenning, only five years older, to assist with keeping her safe. The indefatigable Mary was always looking for adventure, but insisted to Rick, the H, that “I don’t run away. I run towards.” What a great declaration! When Mary and Rick are reunited as adults, she was once again running towards something she thought she desired. However, she eventually began to question that decision when Rick appeared, once again, to see to her safety. Their unusual relationship and their mutual friendship will become something more as they realize how very much they meant to each other— and still do. The collection of four novellas are joined by two bonus short stories by several more of the Bluestocking Belles, which helps to make this a wonderful bedside book. There are novellas when you’re up for something a bit longer and a short story when you’ve not quite as much time. It’s a lovely collection to celebrate the season. I received a complimentary pre-release copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. However, I had previously purchased a now out-of-print copy of a book that contained these same stories.

  • Wonderful

What is better than stories by the Belles? Silly question because they are fabulous apart but even better together! The Ultimate Escape by Susana Ellis An almost reverse time travel romance from 1815 to the future! How exciting and original! A second chance seems to be in the cards for Julia and Oliver. She had loved him forever it seemed and yet he had married another.. Now years later, a widow he comes back into her life and asks her to marry him. What to do? Does he really love her now after all these years? Julia makes a jump to the future and Oliver follows to made her believe his love and the journey begins! Sweet and so worth reading! Under the Mistletoe by Sherry Ewing One never knows what can happen at Christmas. For a novella, this story packed a lot into this delightful tale. The heart feels what the heart feels and sometimes nothing can change that! Margaret Templeton, daughter of a clergyman is content to be a spinster and take care of her sister and father. But her father is determined to have her marry and find her own happiness and family. Matching her up with Captain Sander Morledge to help him host his Christmas party, her father feels he has found her the perfect match. Unfortunately Margaret runs into her longtime friend and true love, Frederick Maddock, who is invited to the party. Sounds good so far? Well as I often say, things are not always as they appear and such is the case at Morledge's house. There is a hugh mystery and as the party begins, secrets come out and mistletoe works it magic!! As all of Sherry's stories, this will go on your to be read again shelf!! Gingerbread Bride by Jude Knight He was rescuing her again. Lieutenant Rick Redepenning had been doing that since Mary was a child and he a Midshipman on her father's vessel. Of course she had been in love with him since his first rescue and that love only increased as he grew into a handsome man. But he would only ever see her as being nine she thought when seeing him for the first time in several years, he rescued her from a broken down coach! Rick had injured himself and had been trying to let his leg heal but it was certainly bringing him some pain, but after leaving Mary at her aunt's, he decided to go back and check on her. Well she was on the move again to another aunt's house when he caught up with her! A wonderful journey told in the unique and wonderful prose of Jude Knight, who makes us feel part of the story and we see it unfold. Rick wants to court Mary, while she is smitten over him, but it seems one incident or another keeps getting in the way, Especially one money hungry cousin Bosville (the idiot) who keeps turning up. Love, loved this story!! Now want some gingerbread cookies! A Dangerous Nativity by Caroline Warfield A mystery, a broken sister and nephew, secrets and an unexpected attraction all pull together to bring this wonderful story to life. Will Chadbourn had come to support his sister, now widowed and his nephew Charles. What he found was a mess. Emotionally and physically. The estate was in a state of disrepair and neglect and his sister was so drugged up, she was constantly crying. His nephew was almost traumatized and not able to act as a little boy now that he held the title of the next duke. With all of this Will found Songbird Cottage, close to the estate and best of all Catherine and her two younger brothers. There was so much to this story, even though shorter, that I found I was enthralled to find out what would happen! Healing and a building love combined with a Nativity scene made entirely of animals made this an amazing story that I will not soon forget!

  • Loved it

A really good collection of enjoyable Christmas stories, thoroughly enjoyed them all. Much to her father’s chagrin, Margaret Templeton is happy being a bluestocking spinster. Since, the only man she, a clergyman’s daughter, has ever loved is beyond her reach. With her father determined to see her settled and happy before he dies he agrees to Captain Morledge’s innocent request to have Margaret help him host his annual ball.

  • Wonderful Collection of Sweet Clean Christmas Sto

Wonderful Collection of Sweet Clean Christmas Stories I really enjoyed each story in this collection by multi authors. Each story was totally unique and the best part was they were all clean stories so I didn't have to cringe or stop reading. The Ultimate Escape, by Susana Ellis - This is a time travel story where two people that are betrothed go into the future separately. Julia is running away before the wedding because she doesn't believe Oliver loves her. Oliver finds a way to chase her through time because he is determined to fight for their relationship. Under the Mistletoe, by Sherry Ewing - This is a second chance story about Margaret Templeton and the man she turned down when he proposed. Being the hostess for Captain Morledge’s Christmas House party was set up by her father as he wants her to accept the Captain's proposal. Margaret never expected to see her long time friend again after refusing to marry him years before. Now he is determined to stop her from marrying Captain Morledge because he believes there is something sinister in his background. Can he get her to finally say yes to his proposal? Gingerbread Bride, by Jude Knight - Mary Pritchard is used to being on her father's ship and being in London with her aunt is not where she wants to stay. Leaving London to go stay with another aunt seems like a good idea until she gets into a dangerous situation. Her rescuer from her childhood manages to find her and save her again and again in this sweet Christmas story. A Dangerous Nativity, by Caroline Warfield - This Christmas story involves the Earl of Chadbourn as he tries to repair the many problems with the estate of his his brother-in-law after his untimely death.. His young nephew and his sister desperately need him and the mess he's got to clean up is a heavy burden until he meets the family living next door. This story has some humorous situations involving a live nativity using animals and the antics of the young boys living next door. There's also something of a mystery of the heritage of the neighbors who bear the same name as his brother-in-law. There is also two other short stories that were just as sweet. This was a great collection of stories. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
