    Hot Shot a Great Read

After Wild Card and Maverick, Hot Shot is the third book in the North Ridge Series by the outstanding author Karina Halle. While every book can be read as a standalone, I recommend to read the books in order. Hot Shot is Fox and Delilah´s story. Delilah Gordon is in love with Fox Nelson for forever. And while everyone knows, only Fox is clueless. He has deeply friendzoned her. Fox is the oldest of the Nelson brothers and he carries guild and darkness in his heart and battles his demons. He´s a Wildland Firefighter, a - "hot shot". And sometime he realizes only Delilah can cure him. Fox is burned out, lost and suffers from PTSD. She brings him peace when his world spiurals out of control. Delilah is owner of the lokal bar and cares for her ill mother. Her best friends are Rachel and Riley, Shane and Maverick´s girlfriends. While they cheer for Del and Fox there´s only so much they can do. Del and Fox is not a match made in heaven. Their story is raw and gritty. The hero with the broken soul and the heroine who has to stay strong when the only thing she wants to do is wallow in selfpity. Hot Shot made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me angry at the characters. Hot Shot is my favorite read in the series and I highly recommend this 5 stars read !

    Wonderful emotional story!

Oh my gosh did I love this story. The prologue alone killed me! This story packed so much in and I could not put it down, I read it in about 24 hours.

I loved the journeys of the characters

Hot Shot is a friends to lovers romance and Book 3 in Karina Halle's North Ridge series. It is a standalone and having not read the two previous books I'll confirm that the book stands well on its own. This is the love story between oldest Nelson brother, Fox, and Delilah, local bar owner and his best friend. Delilah has secretly been in love with him for years while Fox has been oblivious. Fox fights wildfires and is a smoke jumper. A "hot shot". I enjoyed the details regarding his job and the dangers he faces on a daily basis. I loved the journeys of the characters to find their HEA. Especially Fox, a man who suffered some emotional damage as a child which shaped him in heartbreaking ways. A key message in this book is that you have to love yourself in order to be able love others and this was not an easy journey for Fox, the "hero with the broken soul". The character of Delilah was likable and relatable. I felt her pain and frustration with her unrequited love. Overall, I loved this story. Halle excels at creating alpha males with big hearts that manage to shine through at the end. I recommend this book for lovers of a great contemporary romance that has a lot of heart and a good bit of steam. And oh the steam!!! I loved this so much I am going back to read Shane and Maverick's books. Well done, Ms. Halle!!! Reviewed by: Jamie B.

4.5 stars - My favorite in the series!

"She was always something separate, the girl next door, a light that would always lead me out of the black. She was my saving grace and the one constant thing I had in my life, the one person who could turn things around." Hot Shot is my favorite book in the North Ridge series. I had been highly anticipating Delilah and Fox's story because both of them intrigued me. Especially Fox, because he was such a complex and intense person. He doesn't let people, even his family, get too close to him. He has built a wall around himself and wants to stay in a dark place to punish himself. He doesn't think he deserves happiness. Del, always had his back and is such a great support. She is a friend everyone needs in their lives. However, Del has been wanting more than just a friendship but never wanted to ruin things between them "I don't want to be lost. I don't want to be angry. I don't want to blame myself. I want to be free, to have peace, a future. I want love." When they finally take the leap to things further, things get complicated. My heart broke for both of them so much. There were moments were Fox really said stupid things and disappointed and broke Del's heart, but I couldn't really blame him too much because he was battling his own demons. It was really difficult for me to see them go through the things they did. They deserved their HEA so much. If you read the previous two books, you'll know that especially the relationship between Fox and his youngest brother Shane was bad. I was glad that they finally worked things out. Del and Fox's road to happiness wasn't an easy one, and the author did a great job in putting it into words. "It will eventually consume me and I want to be consumed, Del. I want to love you, burn for you, until there's nothing else left. Just your heart and mine." The writing like always was phenomenal, and very easy to read. I love Karina's books so much, and I appreciate her coming up with so many different characters who I end up loving. I am going to miss them so much, and I hope Karina will consider writing a novella set in North Ridge series. I highly recommend this series, and I hope when you read it that you'll end up loving these characters as much as I did.

    Love is a wildfire

Ahhh, Fox and Delilah, how I have been waiting for your story! Introduced to us in Wild Card, the first book in this standalone series, Fox and Del have been best friends since early childhood. They grew up together after Del's mom became the nanny to Fox and his two brothers after their mom died and his dad was busy running the family ranch. I have said it in probably almost every review I've written for a Karina book, but I need to say it again: Karina Halle is the Queen of prologues! Talk about setting up a story while simultaneously ripping the heart out of my chest and poking it with a sharp stick she picked up from the ground in North Ridge, British Columbia! Fox Nelson is the oldest of the three Nelson brothers and the one who remembers the most about the day his mother died. He has been secretly carrying around this huge weight borne from the guilt he feels for not preventing his mother's death. He was just a little boy, but he remembers it now like it was yesterday, and the demons he's carried with him since that day are slowly turning his insides black. Nothing helps to chase those demons away. Not drugs or alcohol, not putting out massive fires and saving people's lives. Nothing calms him inside, except Delilah. His best friend, the only one who has ever been able to soothe the blackness inside. Unrequited love, and the angst in creates! Poor Delilah, I felt for her throughout this entire book! What a quandary to be in, to be in love with the same boy for almost all of your life, to be his best friend, and to be too scared to tell him because he has never indicated that he feels the same way. Is it worth losing the friendship you have by disclosing your feelings? Is it better to sit back and watch him date other girls and continue to just be his BFF so that you don't lose him, or at what point does it get to be too much and those feelings are finally going to spill over because you can't bury them anymore? Friends to lovers romances are always tricky for me, because it's so hard for me to see two people who are obviously in love but either oblivious to it, or know it but are too afraid to act, and in the meantime date other people and go on with life as if nothing is happening with their hearts. I want to reach in my Kindle and shake them, push them together in an empty room and blurt it all out! I would be the worst friend to have if this was actually happening with anyone I knew, I would end up either being unfriended or thanked for pointing out the obvious. Karina does emotions, let me just tell you! I fell hard for both Fox and Delilah. Each grappling with things they are keeping from each other, their friends and family. Except the things that Fox is struggling with are things that could very well end up getting him killed if he doesn't get his head on straight. This book is an intense ride to put it lightly. I shed tears in several parts of this story. Felt like I took a couple of punches to the solar plexus once Fox's secrets were revealed. So emotional! But I laughed quite a few times as well. Once you get the whole Nelson and friends gang together, it is a crazy, chaotic whirlwind, a family dynamic that works perfectly for these people. Completely loved Grandpa Dick!! This book is the third book in this series and as I mentioned above, can be totally read as a standalone. If you are anything like me and need to read a series in order even if they are standalones, I promise that Wild Card and Maverick are equally as amazing as this story. And if you don't read them first, I am pretty sure after you finish Hot Shot, you're going to want to go get the first two books and devour them as well. I am so sad the series is done!! I hope that Karina will continue to give us little snippets of the Nelsons in the future, I refuse to say goodbye to them!
