  • Brilliant &. Devastating

TW: a lot of depression, drugs, parental abuse of children etc. Basically don't read if you aren't in a good place. "House of Earth and Blood" is easily the most devastating book SJM has written (and I've read Kingdom of Ash). I cried a lot but it was somewhat of a cathartic experience. I loved it and I very much don't enjoy when books have sad things. I felt so seen by many of the interactions in the book-- and it navigates parental abuse so well. The story is so intriguing that I had to read it much slower than a lot of the books I read and it was well worth it. The acronyms and world building can get a bit confusing but nothing too strenuous and if you don't remember specific acronyms it doesn't really hinder your reading experience. Bryce's relationships with everyone she interacts with is different and feels real. I was so engaged with the story and made my mom read it too (she also loved it and was devastated-- it was her second SJM book after Catwoman).

  • I was so excited to Read

I was supper excited to read an adult fantasy book buy Mass. I love her other YA series and couldn't wait to read something edgier. I found the begining a bit slow and an first thought I would be disappointed buy the over all story. Turns out if you stick with you see how she is crafting a whole new world that is some how familiar and foreign at the same time Bryce's story takes time to build. Its a good book.

  • Can't wait for the full experience

I had my doubts about Sarah J. Maas' upcoming adult fantasy novel. I absolutely adored her previous series' and there is always a little trepidation when an author branches out into something different. Fortunately, excerpts like this become available and toss all those doubts away. Initially, when I started this I was worried. There is a lot going on and a lot of different types of characters, creatures and communities to wrap your head around so I was a bit overwhelmed from the beginning. Luckily, though, it was easy to get into and I'm already begging for more! I can't wait for release day so I can get my hands on a copy and see where Maas takes this story!

  • Amazing

Sarah J Maas has done it again. What an amazing book so far. The characters are pulling you in from the minute you are read it. Quick pace and full of life in the supernormal world we all love. The main character so far, Bryce is full of sass, spite, fun with an amazing bunch of kick-arse friends. If i could give this preview 6 stars then I would. It's going to be a long few weeks until i can get to finish the rest of it. Thank you to NetGalley, Bloomsbury Publishing & Sarah J Maas for allowing me to read this excerpt before release. Im yet again in love with another book.

  • You'll laugh you'll cry, it's a mood

honestly? I love Sarah J Maas. This book brings a whole new level of fantasy, she introduces a modern idea of her fantasy worlds. Bryce is unlike any character I've ever read about she is a literal mood. you never know what she is going to do and she surprises you every time. I don't cry for books or movies but this book made me understand that love and family has nothing to do with blood it is those who are there for you even in your ugliest moments and are the ones who tell you how it is whether you like it or not. This book taught me that even though people have power doesn't mean that they should. As usual though like any of Sarah's MC's Bryce has no problem with sacrificing herselves for others and her sarcasm and wittiness is on a whole nother level for those who have read her other books it is like Cassian and Aelin had a baby. She is my new favourite MC and not to mention the fact that Sarah always seems to empower women. This book is proof that you can save lives and look good while doing it. Love this for me this book is a legit mood. You'll laugh you'll cry, you'll hate Sarah J Maas and you'll thank her for the emotional rollercoaster. I legit never put this book down until I finished reading it. I cannot say it enough this book puts my standards on a whole new level!
