  • Complex Characters and a Shocking Ending

Okay. There is a lot to unpack in this one. Was it worth the wait? Yes. Was it fun and exciting? Yes. Did the ending completely break my brain in the best way? YES YES YES. CRESCENT CITY has always been one of my favourite fantasy books because it is bold and original, yet profoundly realistic. It’s a place I could see myself living in because there is such a melting pot of characters and species. In HOSAB, Sarah J. Maas takes that and elevates it to a whole new level, with a twist at the end that made my head spin (one of many times). Characters have always been Maas’ strongest suit. Everyone in the cast, from new to old, is given time to shine and become realistic. Bryce remains her sassy self, Ruhn grapples with his own desires and choices, Ithan and Tharion are both surprising players that will have high stakes in the end. Hunt, as a whole, was the weakest of the leads, since much of his arc revolved around his romance with Bryce. Still, he had some emotional moments as he fought to keep normalcy in his life. I also have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Baxian and am ready for him of him. While the plot did lead to a jaw-dropping finale, it was a little slower than I expected. There were moments of discovery and drama, plenty of twists and turns and reveals, but the sense of urgency and danger wasn’t really prevalent that bold finale. Still, I never felt bored or unengaged. Maas’ characters have a way of hooking the reader enough to make you care and enjoy the moments of domesticity before everything spirals out of control. The romance was definitely heavier and way, way spicier than even I expected. Partly because I think this book suffers a little bit of second-book-syndrome, and also because Maas knows what she s working toward for maximum devastation. As for the ending, it didn’t impact me as heavily as the Drop from the previous CRESCENT CITY book. But my jaw legitimately dropped multiple times. I had visceral reactions that will linger with me all the way to the third, explosive book. HOUSE OF SKY AND BREATH is thrilling, steamy, shocking, and packed with expertly crafted characters in a one-of-a-kind-world. Do not miss out on this series!

  • Read anything by this author

Anything Sarah J. Maas writes, I read. Repeatedly. Her characters are well developed and go through changes. Her heroines are the stuff of legend; showing amazing strength, cleverness and true emotions. Cannot giver Her books, and this series as well, enough praise.
