  • Christmas romcom about living, loving, and learnin

Maelyn’s family has gathered together with friends and families every December since before she was born. It’s a time of fun, festivities, celebrations, and traditions that have grown over the years. In a Holidaze, by Christina Lauren, is a fun filled romantic comedy full of emotional ups and downs and is a beautiful portrayal of the things we do for one another. Christina Lauren has crafted a touching story about how the spirit of the season and the joy of Christmas bring us together through love and time honored traditions that create memories that will last a lifetime. The gathering this year is different than any other year though. Maelyn, Andrew, and Andrew’s brother Theo have been friends since they were kids. Their lives undergo an unexpected change during their time together with their families this year. Maelyn has had a crush on Andrew for the longest time, but things go astray this Christmas. Instead of their time together turning out the way Maelyn had hoped, she makes some poor choices that lead to painful consequences. Rather than time moving on, she gets stuck in a cycle of do overs where she continues reliving the same week again and again until she makes choices that rectify her wrongdoings. In this Groundhog Day comparable storyline of time repeating itself, Maelyn makes countless mistakes and learns how to follow her heart and do what she knows is right. Although she learns the hard way by experiencing harsh realities of what could’ve been, the ending is sure to warm your heart. With memorable characters, a gorgeous setting, and a plot filled with emotional roller coaster experiences, Christina Lauren reveals how people can learn, grow, and love despite the mistakes we sometimes make along the way. With a backdrop of Christmastime, In a Holidaze is sure to be a favorite this holiday season!

  • I could not put this book down!

Maelyn Jones' life is stuck in a rut and now it seems it's stuck in repeat mode. Mae is back living with her family; hates her job; and has no dating life to talk about. The one thing Mae does look forward to every year is when her family goes to the cabin in Utah owned by their family friends, the Hollis' and two other families. They have been spending the same week there every year for her entire life of twenty-six years....and for the last thirteen years she has had a big crush on one of the Hollis' boys. When Mae makes one of the biggest mistakes of her life, she wishes she could have a redo. It turns out she gets one....over and over again! It will take some crazy moments for her to figure out what is going on and to be able find her happy ending, but she eventually does. I just loved this story and couldn't put it down. All of the characters in this story are such fun and unique in their own way. I really enjoyed the path that Mae had to go on to find her happy ending but it was so worth it. Great story and I highly recommend it.

  • A great rom-com set at Christmas

I love Christina Lauren books. They are humorous, romantic and, simply put, leave me feeling good. When I first learned that they had a Christmas book publishing, I knew I just had to read it. Maelyn Jones is a twenty-six year old woman who has a fairly mundane life - she still lives with her parents and works at a job she doesn’t enjoy. One of the things she looks forward to each year is spending the Christmas holidays with the people she has grown up sharing the season with. This is a time of celebration, loaded with food, traditions and festive activities. She’s grown up with Theo and Andrew, the boys of Maelyn’s parents’ good friends, and has secretly held a crush on Andrew for the past thirteen years. She questions, then, why she made a big mistake her final night at the cabin. Her life seems to be filled with missed opportunities. The holiday together finishes, and Maelyn and her family drive away. She reflects on her life, her inability to take chances and asks the universe to let her know what will make her happy. The next thing she knows, her family is involved in a car crash, and Maelyn wakes up only to find her self back on a plane to Utah on December 20 and in a Groundhog’s Day repeat of the last few days. Will the choices she makes lead to a different outcome by the end of the trip? I loved this story. The authors have the ability to bring me back to a time of new romance with all the excitement, desire and passion I remember and cherish. I thoroughly enjoyed that the book is set at Christmas, with all the festivities, food and traditions. The characters are all likeable and the story engaging. I appreciated the history of the families coming together and the joy experienced by the characters. I’d love to see this book made into a movie. Thanks to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for the ARC of this book in exchange for the honest review provided here.

  • Heartwarming and Humorous

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren (Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billing) is a delightful Christmas rom-com with shades of my favourite movie Groundhog Day, favourite childhood Christmas memories of spending time at the chalet, and a friends to lovers storyline. Maelyn Jones has reached a turning point in her life; she’s been living at home with her mom, she hates her job, and she’s just spent the last Christmas at a friends and family cabin that’s going to be sold in the New Year. On the drive to the airport, she asks the universe, “Can you show me what will make me happy?” And seconds later, she wakes up on an airplane on the way to the cabin six days earlier. Every time she takes a wrong step and does something that will make her unhappy … zoom back to the airplane. This gives her the freedom to trust herself and to ask for what she wants, so she tells the boy now man that she’s been in love with since she was thirteen how she feels, she quits her job, and she tries to find a way to save the cabin from being sold. Heartwarming and funny, this book about love, friends and family is a perfect holiday season read. Steam Level: light side of medium. • Got me right in the heart!

In A Holidaze is my favorite book by Christina Lauren to date! There was so much heart and soul in this book. I laughed, I cried, I got angry and I fell in love with this blended family. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, and a lot of that has to do with very fond memories growing up. If I could describe this book, it would be just like that. It's a family spending a week together to enjoy their holidays, adding new memories, except this year there's a twist. The whole Groundhog Day twist was wildly entertaining. I got so invested in Mae's life and her road to figuring out what would get her out of the loop. By the end of the book, I wished these people were real and that I knew them. That's the result of some excellent writing from this author duo.
