  • Growly hero!

This book was such a surprise for me. I admit to judging the first couple chapters to be the typical enemies to lovers trope. I've read so many lately that sometimes they just blend into one book. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that while it started out that way, there was nothing typical about Piper and Brendan. It didn't take long for these two to stand out and make me love them. For a spoiled rich girl, Piper was extremely likable. I really enjoyed that she wasn't typical for the roll she was slated too. Yes she had a superficial lifestyle, but when she was put the to the test, she excelled better than I would have. She had spunk. She was kind. She drew strangers and made them feel special. She's exactly the kind of heroine I can root for. Brendan started out very growly, gruff, and even rude at first. And I loved every bit of his fall to Piper. The moment he decided he wasn't going to fight it, she didn't have a chance. No woman would. I adored how he pursued her. These two shouldn't have fit so well but they were perfect for each other. This is one of those books that had me smiling so big when I finished it. I really enjoyed it and I hope the sisters book will be just as good.

  • 100% Swoonlicious

It Happened One Summer was exactly the feel good, swoonlicious romance my heart was needing. It checked ALL of my boxes and then some. I had a huge smile on my face almost the entire time and when I didn't, it was because I was swooning and fanning myself from the absolutely scorching chemistry between Brendan and Piper. These two. WOW. *bites fist* Tessa Bailey can really bring the heat! Yes, It Happened One Summer is a romance, but it's also a story about home and finding yourself. Piper's character arc was so satisfying and all of her stumbles and missteps only made me love her more. The opposites attract/grumpy & sunshine and fish (no pun intended) out of water tropes worked so well between her and Brendan. I loved seeing the sparks fly between these two. The humor was balanced so well with the sweet and sexy. I could fill this entire review with how much I loved Brendan, but it still wouldn't do him justice. He was so thoughtful, giving, steadfast, and unapologetically himself. There was no pretense or subterfuge. His gruff exterior gave way to a cinnamon roll to the nth degree, and he was just so purely male. Don't even get me started on what he can do in the bedroom (or the wall, a kitchen table, boat, etc) I never stood a chance. Brendan Taggart is a no brainer for my book boyfriend hall of fame. I loved the friendships in the book, especially the bond between Hannah and Piper. They always have each other's backs and it was so sweet how much they loved and supported the other. I'm so excited that Hannah and Fox will be getting their own book. I'm already counting down the days until I can head back to Westport! You definitely don't want to miss this book! CW: death of parent (boating/drowning) and loved one (aneurysm) *I voluntarily read an advance review copy of this book*

  • Two Opposites Sparkle Together

Piper Bellinger life as a socialite influencer is full of fancy clothes, rich friends and lots of parties. When one of her crazy ideas lands Piper in hot water with her stepfather, he tells her she needs to figure out her life and in order to do that she needs to go to Westport, Washington where her natural father was from and run his old bar. Piper's sister Hannah volunteers to keep her sister company for the three months she is required to be in Westport. As soon as they arrive, Piper is confronted by Brendan Taggart, the sexy, bearded captain. Brendan may think this "barbie doll" won't last a day in Westport but he can't deny the attraction that is sizzling. As Piper reconnects with her past, she can't help the connection developing with Brendan. She starts to think that maybe she has finally found a place that has given her purpose. While Piper and Hannah and restoring their father's bar, things with Brendan really heat up. Just when Piper realizes that Brendan is her happy ever after, things blow up in a big way. It will take a lot of digging deep down by Piper and Brendan but these two will both finally realize that what they want most in life is each other. It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey is a steamy, hot romance that was wonderful. I loved watching Piper turn from a spoiled, rich girl into this down to earth sweet woman. As for Brendan....YUM! This gruff sea fairing captain was just going through the motions in his life until he met Piper. She brought the "sparkle" back into his life that he never realized he was missing. I just adored these two opposites and they complemented each other perfectly. This was a fun story that I highly recommend and I can't wait for Hannah's story.

  • Perfection!

Romcom, opposites attract, fish out of water, the grumpy one falls for the sunshiney one, small town romance, great summer read, there are so many things that could be used to describe this book, but really, it was one word – perfection! Tessa builds a world and tells a story that is so vibrant, so clear, you can’t help but be there with the characters, experiencing everything with them. The attraction, the steam between these two, it snaps and crackles and sizzles. The doubts and fears, they radiate and envelope. The joy and happiness will invade your heart and soul. Piper and Brendan don’t appear to be perfect for each other at the start, but as their story is told, it is apparent to everyone that they are exactly what the other needs <3
