    Smooth, Easy-to-Read.

    > > Judging a Book by it's Cover < < Grey-scale photo. Model is fully dressed. Vibrant blue title, bold white author text. Good composition, catches the eye. Clean and legible. Synopsis is interesting and gives just enough on the characters that you already want to cheer for them to find their HEA. > > Looking Deeper < < As the synopsis implies, this has a first-person POV - alternating between Jax and Candice. US readers: Author is Australian, setting is in Australia. Be sure to have your Aussie-to-American translator nearby! This is the first time I've read this author and am immediately and already in love with her at 6% for the use of one witty comeback from Candice, directed at Brent; a line that is on my favorite coffee mug... about a lower body part being jealous of another body part. Loved it. Jax is the black sheep of his wealthy, pretentious, political family. Candice is an unwilling pageant queen. Together they find kindred spirits; their other half. Unfortunately, having grown up as the constant "disappointment", Jax truly believes that he does not deserve Candice and flees after one passionate night together. Years later, they nearly bump into one another, literally. They have the chance to reconnect, but they're both afraid of showing their true feelings and getting hurt. The whole of each character was great, they were developed and somewhat complex, however there were too many games; hot-and-cold, push-and-pull, for far too long. The chemistry lingered in the background, but it felt too little. The games they played with one another nearly turned me off to them both. The secondary cast was a lively, fun bunch. Dialogue was okay, if not a bit rowdy at times. A lot of name calling among friends, a less common thing in the states. The plot contained plenty of content, with elemental depth and enough dimensions to keep the reader engaged. The writing style was smooth and the story moved fluidly along. The important conflicts are finally resolved, whereas there were some things that never need to be touched again and can be left to rot as they were. There was a lot in this story that I had gotten right off - Maddison was a no-brainer. I knew something was going to happen with Joseph, though I'd thought it would end worse. I can say with all certainty that the only surprise was Gina. The conclusion was solid enough, though I wish it would have ended later... but there were no loose ends or cliffhangers. Overall, it's a fairly enjoyable read if you can get passed the petty games and insecurities, outright lies and those of omission, and the transparency of the plot. The story itself is good and the writing style is smooth and easy to read. .
