  • Another great book in this series

This is the fourth book in the Gates of Heaven series. Joey Tall is a bartender at the Gates of Heaven bar. No one knows that his name, background and good health are all fake. Joey has a life threatening illness. He is constantly fighting for survival. He certainly doesn't believe in love or happily ever after. It is okay for other people, but it is just not in the cards for him. Sam is a LAPD officer. He meets Joey when he is accidentally hit in the head with an exploding cork at a celebration being held at the Gates bar. Joey is mortified about hitting Sam. Sam takes Joey aside and gets him to relax. He leaves Joey with his card as asks him for coffee. Even though Joey believes he shouldn't be anywhere near a police officer, he decides that once just to take a little happiness for himself and go on the coffee date. There is a lack of communication and unjust assumptions that set these two apart. Both have personal baggage that threatens their tenuous relationship. Not to mention criminals and crazy relatives. They both have a very bumpy road to go down before they reach what they both so desperately want. Another great book in this series. • sweet

Joey does not believe that happily ever after is going to happen for him. An illness has made it difficult for him to believe in a future. And Sam, the sweet cop that comes into his life and gives him love and hope was so cool. Such a good story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

  • Another great book in series

As a person who is disabled I love how M. Tasia has not only created a character with a permanent disability, but also then woven the reality of dealing with said disability throughout this story. While that sounds like it could be a real downer of a book, in her hands it’s a very uplifting tale. Her other characters all have problems of on type or another and woven through the whole series is how much we need each other to get through life and family is way more than the people we are born with.
