    captivating

This book grabs you from page 1 until the end. Well written and imaginative, Winspear does a good job of describing the surroundings, you feel you are along side Maisie in pre-war Munich.

    An ok read

I found this book slightly slow, especially with regards to Maisie's previous life experiences, her husband's death and the loss of her pregnancy. This was my first book from this author. Perhaps this would have been more interesting had I read the previous novels but for me, the constant reference to this was a bit boring. Some parts of the plot seemed repetitive. The historical and geographical aspect rang true and the character development was good.
