All kinds of crazy going on

Julian is reflecting his life purpose when his mate is dropped right into his lap. Tess is hiding from someone who she considered her best friend, but something happened and he has gone off the deep end threating her life and her daughters. Traveling with her grandfather to help an injured shifter, she was unprepared for the dynamics of the Stanton family and the man who claims to be her mate. I really enjoyed the byplay between these two characters, the fact that Julian's home is already complete with a nursery for little Ruby helps everything fall into place. The mystery behind her friend Dexter's personality change is very intense, while you start off hating the man you soon feel sorry for all he has suffered. I was glad to see that Kendal and his wife found a place among this extraordinary family as they were great supporting characters. The story is fast paced, easy to read but somewhat complex and disturbing when it comes to the cause of poor Dexter's problems. I enjoyed the intro to the last three brothers adventures and really smiled as they mixed it up with the little old lady from the auction. The new female introductions look to be an interesting addition to the Stanton family and I can't wait to see who they end up with. I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion.

I absolutely love Kathi's books. I get to the point where I'm so invested in the characters so when they hurt I find myself hurting for them. Julian's book was no different. My heart broke for Tess and her best friend Dexter and the cards they were dealt in life. Tess is running from her best friend. Growing up she was always his protector and his escape from home life. However, since his mother died he's been hurting her and now he's determined to get her child. All Tess wanted to do was have this baby for Kenneth and his lover and continue to be one of the top surgeons. Julian is trying to find his place once again in the world. After being forced to retire from his job as a dead beat cop, he turned to private investigation. But he's even now rethinking that job. When he's sent to help out a family friend he never expected to have a baby thrown at him, much less to find the woman behind the baby his mate. Now Tess and Julian have to figure out how to help Dexter without killing him. Plus Julian is in for a big surprise in what life throws at him, including a new job. I am honest when I say I shed a few tears during this book. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Dexter and what happened to him during his life.
