One of the best book I’ve ever read

Stands out from the other books. Something different, like a fresh breath of air!

An amazing read: fun, educational, a

What a book; what a story. I’ve funded many research investigations in Earth science and no investigator has ever manifested as much insight and love of ones research field as is evident in these pages. The book alternates memoir chapters with those providing perspective on plants and trees in particular. The chapter on soil shows the wonders that can unfold in a soil pit. This book is a gift to us all and I recomm3nd it to all, particularly those involved in studying our planet.

    Joy of learning

I'm a humanist and a science nut who knows almost nothing about botany. Hope Jahren's blend of autobiography with facts about plants and research kept me reading eagerly to the end. I put her on a level with my favorite science writer, the late, great Stephen Jay Gould.
