  • A beleaguered romance

An adventure romance set in medieval times, Lady of Steel explored some of the realities of that era, from the history of the time to women’s rights and lifestyle in a castle with its community. Whilst I enjoyed the book, I did find that the story made some jumps, leaving the reader to make assumptions about what happened in the intervening period. At times I found the dialogue slowed the story down. It also seemed strange that after all the years that Lady Nicola served her community, there was so little trust in her. In particular, I would have liked to give Reynard a shake as his snap judgements did more harm than good. Fawkes was an interesting hero and whilst his heart didn’t waver, his intellect had a hard time sorting out fact from fiction. The story was generally well written with a good flow of language and came to a happy ending for the beleaguered couple, however there were some loose ends regarding the outcome of those who conspired against them. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.

  • I Loved It

Lady Nicola Mortimer is an heiress with extensive lands. The man who was awarded her hand in marriage only wanted those lands. He was an evil man whose only joy was tormenting others. Now he has been defeated in battle and a new husband will take over her life. It´s someone she has "met" before. Fawkes de Cressy has worked hard on the Crusades with King Richard with one purpose in mind. When he is granted his heart's desire, things don't go quite as planned. Our heroine has been living with secrets and lies for the last few years. Protecting those dear to her is the most important thing. Our hero is a straightforward man, who is angered by all the deception he faces. So many stories, he doesn't know who to believe. There is danger and intrigue all around. Emotions are running high. A wonderful look into the the life of a very strong medieval woman and those closest to her. I loved it.
