    Great YA Retelling

The author definitely ramped up the tension, drama and action in this sequel. Everything was ramped up to an insane degree and filled a well plotted and paced story. There were moments where I was cringing, yelling at characters, and cheering for everyone to get what they deserved. I have to say I was really surprised about a core element of the story: Scarlet's self-imposed "imprisonment," I guess it could be called? I just never expected it from her and in the beginning was hoping she would completely sever ties with Gisbourne somehow. That said, I was glad for it by the end because it definitely shook up Scarlet's life. The characters were very strong, with Scarlet being completely loveable this time around. I loved meeting new characters like Winchester and Eleanor, and some of the side antagonists were interesting and complex. I also loved reuniting with the band, though I'm still not sure how I feel about Robin. I feel like he and Scarlet cling to each other too much, and he was a serious jerk for a good potion of the book. The author made sure to explore and respect the lore of this time in history, while adding in some twists. There were some I saw coming, and major ones that I didn't, which make me eager for the concluding story. Great for anyone who likes retellings, strong female characters, and English history!
