  • Meh 2.5/5

A by definition "page-turner" that had a bland and unimaginitive storyline. Main character was annoying. Her character was a pathedic attempt at relatibility. Yes. Living in a city is hard and being broke and young is common. How creative. A few things never unraveled that made this eye-rolling plot easy to digest as it was predicible and simple throughout. Don't waste your money.

  • Apartment Thriller!!

As I sit here and type, I can't help but wonder, would I have signed up to be an apartment sitter if I were in Jules' situation? You betcha! Any single individual in need of a place to live would likely have had no problem applying for this gig, not to mention the thousand dollars a week salary provided just to babysit said upscale apartment! That's just how they get you; promises of a too-good-to-be-true lifestyle, offering plenty of cash and peace of mind as you rebuild your life. I'd probably take endless baths and read all day myself! The grandeur of the Bartholomew alone is enough to sweep any concerns under the rug! Unfortunately for Jules', she's forced to pick up all of the pieces of her life the hard way... but can she pick them all up? // Riley Sager has succeeded in captivating me right from the start, pulling me in and holding tight until that jaw-dropping-didn't-see-it-coming twist at the end! This may be my first novel by this author, but it certainly will not be my last! The mere fact that we're given Jules' early thoughts and experiences right alongside the "now" six days later makes it all the more intriguing. I, for one, was under the impression that the apartment building was haunted, wallpaper and all. Maybe I was right. I enjoyed the contrast between the two timelines; the now sections, so emergent and desperate, connected with Jules' initial, raw, and assumedly innocent encounters quite well. At first glance, the end felt a tad bit out of left-field, yet after a moment or two, all of the pieces connected in a way bringing everything full circle. // I would recommend this book to everyone! Even those who don't typically read thrillers may find themselves coming to the dark side... check it out! Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers from Penguin Random House, and the author Riley Sager for providing me with a complimentary copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

  • Highly Recommend!

I loved this book, seriously couldn't put it down! It painted such a clear picture of the glamour and sinisterness of The Bartholomew with its gargoyles overlooking the beauty of Central Park. The story and characters were just as vivid. Twisty enough to keep you on the edge of your seat.

  • Not his best

I feel Riley Sager is churning books out too quickly. The concepts aren’t as good as the first books . Trying to marry the supernatural with current events isn’t working. He should stick to realistic settings.
