  • A hilarious romp!

I have always loved historical romance novels, ever since I was a tween! It’s just pure escapist fun! I haven’t read one in a while so I was very pleased to be approved to read this book! Erica Ridley is a new author to me, which means that I was starting in the middle of a series that already has six prior books! There was nothing to fear however, this novel can be read as a standalone. This story was a lovely romp, well befitting the tag line : Cinderella stories aren’t just for princesses! Miss Unity Thorne, has helped two men amass great fortunes— only to be cast aside, but lesson learnt! She’s scraping by at the theater, as a costume designer, and spinning thoughts of owning her own business, using her blood and sweat for her own gain, for once! She aims to start masquerade themed balls that will set the town ablaze, but first, she most undertake a convert mission to see what the current reigning Masquerade Ball of the season is all about! Whispers of a handsome, wealthy but cool Duke of Lambley abound, as well as the potentially scandalous accommodations at the ball, keep both members of the ton and distinguished common folk returning to the invitation-only decadent excess week after week! Painted by malicious gossip as The Lord of The Masquerade, contrary to all appearances, The Duke was marked and traumatized by the loss of his family- save one - in a horrific accident during his childhood as well as the mismanagement of his estate by his naive, drunken uncle. He lives his life in a fixed, rigid way, and by a brutal schedule in which he even pencils in time for ‘fun’. Which is why when Unity swept into his life, on a weekday afternoon, at his scheduled tea time, full bodice nearly bared in a scarlet opera gown, and tumbled it upside down, I was smiling all the way! She peels always all of his grumpy, harsh outer layers built up to keep people further than arm’s length and reveals a truly soft, sweet, playful interior! Together they’re just perfect! I definitely recommend this story, as a lovely, quick afternoon read! Especially if you enjoy teasing, gentle bickering and lots of kissing! (Now I want to attend a Masquerade Ball! ) I received this manga from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

  • Excellent - Great Addition to Series

Lord of the Masquerade by Erica Ridley Rogues to Riches #7 Delightful romance with two people who should not have anything in common definitely finding common ground to build on. Loved this story! What I liked: * Miss Unity Thorne: bright, focused, business-minded, multi-talented, has a dream and a goal with a vision to follow. Her backstory is difficult and yet she has not only survived but thrived. She is willing to work hard to achieve her dreams but may find her dreams are not quite big enough. * Julian Newcombe-Ives, Duke of Lambley and Lord of the Masquerade: controlled, detailed, upper class, overcame much, difficult childhood, giving, kind, lives by rules until his rules are shaken up but a woman that comes into his life…and it just might be for his betterment. * The chemistry between Unity and Julian * The idea of the masquerade * Unity’s strength and indomitable will * The development of the relationship between Unity and Julian * Getting to see and remember the stories of other rogues in the series * That both main characters were not defined by class expectations * The growth of both characters * Wondering if Samson might find his mate in a future story * That a dastard was exposed and dealt with * The HEA for the main couple What I didn’t like: * The pain and difficulties both main characters had to deal with in their pasts. * Being reminded of class rules and expectations Did I enjoy this book? Yes Would I read more in this series/by this author? Definitely! Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars

  • Lamb let's story

I have been waiting for the Duke of Lambley to get his own story for a while. What a great character he is. His scandalous masquerades are legendary. When he meets a strong woman named Unity he has met his match. I didn't care for Unity. I didn't feel any chemistry between them. I had hoped for someone with a character that was not so grating for him. He was challenged but not how I would have liked him to be. The story is solid with some great insights about him. I received this book from Net Galley for a honest review.

  • Sizzling romance!

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy. I was not too sure if I would really get into this book with the Duke leading such bacchanal masquerades, but I definitely got into this book as I loved Unity! She was so outgoing and sure of herself and knew where she stood the society of her day and was working hard to better her life. Julian, Duke of Masquerade, was a bit hard to relate to as he was so controlled and unemotional most of the time but exposure to Unity really had him melting and realizing that he could have love in his life. Love how she got her revenge in the end and her own masquerade ball! I will also have to find the books with the other four men who had such unusual romances! They sound like good reads, also.

  • A DUKE LOSES CONTROL,

The first book to read in this series, I hope the other books are as funny and charming as this one. Miss Unity Thorne has plans. This time she will make her own fortune instead of helping anyone else. She wants to open her own themed masquerade parties and she needs to learn from the best.. Control freak Julian Newcombe-Ives Duke of Lambley, has perfected his masquerade parties to give his guests the ultimate in pleasure. Nothing is left to chance, until Unity walks into his life and totally disrupts his control. The banter is superb, I could not stop laughing. Put this one on your TBR right away! (Some sex) I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
