    What we never were taught

Gives an appreciation for the eastern Roman empire, which in many ways accomplished so much,, so much longer than its western, jealous sibling.

    I did not know that

I grew up equating Roman empire with Rome and the Catholic eduction I received did nothing to change that. The Roman Church could be said to have been a "winner" in the outcome of this story and it's the winners who write the history. Brownworth's enthusiasm and love for his topic certainly make up for the lapses in the editing. (otherwise 5 stars). I definitely recommend 'Norman Centuries' and both podcasts. I'd love to see his take on the Holy Roman Empire ans well as the Viking 'empires' of that era
