  • Love, Chocolate, and Beer

Violet Duke never disappoints. You will laugh, cry, and fall in love right along with the characters. I fell in love with Cactus Creek too, and can't wait to meet more of the residents of this cool town.

  • cute read

Yet again, another wonderful book from Violet Duke! I have loved every book I have read from her so far! This book is in the Cactus Creek Series (which is an awesome series BTW). I love how Violet takes 2 people who are not likely to end up together and make them work! Who wouldn’t love a chocolatier though? Their love story is wonderfully written. There are sparks for sure, but not always the romantic kind. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

  • Luke is such an amazing guy!

This is book one in the Cactus Creek series and it features Luke and Dani. It started out as a Valentine’s Day competition but turned into so much more. These two weren’t throwing off sparks. They were throwing off FLAMES! Luke wears his heart on his sleeve. Dani, not so much. She’s got MAJOR issues! After reading the whole book, I understand more about that. It just wasn’t easy watching Luke do all he did and get nothing but resistance back from her. He’s such an awesome guy! When all was said and done, so much more was at play. The story line is fantastic and had great flow! The characters are amazing and I would love to be friends with them in real life. I was so invested with what was happening to each and every character, my emotions were all over the place. I loved it! I would have liked to know more about Quinn and her son because they were such a huge part of Luke’s personal and business life but I guess that will have to wait for book two.

  • A bit of an emotional roller-coaster

So, I’ve had this book sitting, gathering dust, in my library for a very long time now. I’m not sure exactly how I chose this very timely moment to read this story about the Valentines Day competition between these two local business owners. Fair warning; there’s a lot of story here, and it’s not all a straight line to the finish. There were times that I was left wondering ‘how is this important?’ and ‘why is this story not finished yet?’. But it does all tie back together in the end. This story was also a bit of an emotional roller-coaster for me. I’d go from laughing to “squee”-ing in delight to fighting back the tears. This is a book that requires some active involvement from the reader. I didn’t find it to be a quick or light read, even though there are lots of fun, silly moments with all kinds of wicked one-liners. I feel like I’ve started falling in love with the whole extended Cactus Creek “family” and I look forward to reading more about them in the future.

    Thanks for your feedback!
